Fabia Dash Backlight, Drivers Side Light & Rear Light Failure

Featured Replies

Hi Guys!

Recently bought myself a really nice clean example of a Fabia 1.9 SDI Estate. Unfortunately after two weeks of owning the car i went to take it out one evening only to find the dash wasn't illuminating once the lights had been turned on. On further inspection around the car i also noticed that the d/s side light and the rear headlight on the same side were also out. I carried on using the car daily and after to or three days the problem suddenly seemed to rectify itself. I was sat at some lights and all of a sudden the dash lit up. At the same time the other lights also lit up. The lights remained ok for another day or so and then the problem returned. I have searched for this fault and cannot find anything similar. Does anyone know what these lights have in common? Thanks for your help guys.

Have you checked all the possible fuses and a few more besides. It seems the electronics on these cars are so interlinked that if one aspect goes wrong others get confused - this certainly happens with both the wipers and the windows. I had an intermittent problem with the windows due to a loose and dirty fuse - corrected permanently by putting a new fuse in.

... the d/s side light and the rear headlight on the same side ...

Not sure what you mean there but the lights appear to be individually fused - see THE BIBLE

Hi! Thanks for the response. By that I meant that the drivers side side light was out as well as the rear headlight on the drivers side and the dash backlight. I don't see how it could be a fuse though as they all seem to have individual fuses. I was wondering if it may be a relay issue. Where are the relays on the Fabia, are they easy to change? I was hoping to swap them over if I could indentify the right ones. See if that makes any difference. Thanks again.

Belated welcome I notice...

Sorry - didn't comprehend d=drivers - I usually use N/S and O/S (nearside and offside). And sorry, but I still don't understand what a "rear" headlight is - unless it's a reversing light.

As I said the fuses can operate in a funny way and interact. I FOUND OUT if the rear washer fuse goes the stalk changes functionality and trying to wash the front screen turns the rear wiper on...

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes. You'll have to reset the clock and the electric windows, but it should kill any gremlins...
