Yeti windscreen washer fluid

Featured Replies

Reading through the (250 page) manual for new newly arrived Yeti, I noticed that it says that if you have headlight washers (I do, much to my surprise, hadn't realised I was getting them, very pleased) you must only use a windscreen washer additive that doesn't attack the polycarbonate coatings of the headlights. I was just going to bung in a good slug of the garage forecourt "blue stuff" that I use every winter. Is this something I do need to worry about?

Supplementary question - how do I tell if I have heated windscreen washer nozzles?

With the Skoda fan spray it is best to use a good quality additive. Halfords seems to be quite good.

You only need to worry about any water you dilute it with.

Use condensate from a condensing clothes dryer or similar.

As an alternative add some vinegar to the tank once a year if the nozzles clog up.

Have a look at the photos in post #4 on this thread: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/172186-a-few-qs-from-a-new-owner/.

The photos are from a Superb but I would have thought that they are the same on the Yeti.

Best regards

David

Check the bottle to see if it says it is compatible with polycarbonate headlamps. It is probably only the very cheap and nasty stuff you need to be wary of.  Haven't looked at the Halfords stuff, but Sonax and Comma are two good brands that are worth looking out for.

Not sure if the Yeti is the same, but the Octavia was prone to the rear wash system clogging up if genuine VW/Skoda washer fluid was not used. My Octavia was fairly bunged up when I bought it and then stopped working. £120 later it was working. I always used Skoda/VW washer fluid from that time on and never had a problem. (my polo seems to be suffering the same problem now as well)

Lots of discussions on the Octavia 2 forum about it.

I have something similar looking, except, no wire! Just a stub. So, I guess no heated nozzles :(

Will do - never knew it was an issue before I (luckily?) read the Owner's Manual ...

Good grief. Must be very narrow nozzles I guess? I'm in a hard water area and I've never had problems with any previous car.

Brendan

Only use the VAG stuff myself and so far no problems with freezing nozzles (note neat it works down to -70 deg C :o ) Therefore heated nozzles have proved unnecessary.

Usually buy it from the 'local' VW garage as up to now anyway they have been cheaper than Skoda.

TP
