Fabia 1.4 16V

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am new to the forum and also to Skoda ownership. Basically I just recently purchased a 2000 X Fabia 1.4 16V with 72000 on the clock, I was lead to believe that these newer VW owned Skoda's were reliably and solid. However I am now getting seriously worried because all I keep hearing is this list of long faults that this model suffer from.

Loads of sensors failures EGR/Lamdor/ECU/ABS etc etc (That cost 100's to repair or replace)

Suspension faults

Engine mount wear

Leaking water in to footwell

Head gasket problems

Shutting the tail gate to hard can shatter rear windows

irritating rattles and squeakes.

I know that personal my car has had it's ABS pump replaced and engine mounts replaced and the Engine managment light came on stating fault PO402 EGR fault the code was reset and (Touch Wood) has not came back on since. I also have the annoying rattle behind dash.

So what is the real story with these suppose reliable cars ? I thought they were VW's they are suppose to be a good reliable manafacturer . Or is this VW setting the Skoda brand up to fail?? as I have been told the car it's based on the VW Polo does not have half these faults!!

So what I am asking is it worth keeping this car? or should I get rid as soon as poss?

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome aboard.

I had a 1.4 16v Mk1 Furby for 8 years from new, the only problems i had were water in the footwell which was fixed with new door seals, the temp sensor which was also fixed with a new one and the suspension bushes. Then after that everything was hunky dory.

It is a great car with nice enough power and comfort.

gallego1968 thanks for your reply. Set my mind at ease a little, don't get me wrong i love my little Fabia and don't want to get rid. However don't want to be spending loads on getting electrical faults looked at and replaced!!

I guess i am best enjoy the car and not worry about what might go wrong, i will also pay out for a good warranty i think. the official poll by a warranty company is that for every 100% of fabias produced then 64.5 % will have major and persitant faults which is high ish.

One thing i was told is that the age and miles on my car, most faults would have been fixed or replaced under warranty or previous owners.

So has anyone ever had one of these cars for a long period of time and had no major faults??

thanks again
