Tyre Pressures? Quickie!

Featured Replies

Off tomorrow with the caravan so thought I'd pump the tyres up today, but my pump doesn't have "bars" on it.

Handbook says look at fuel cap and that isn't any help!

What should the tyre pressures be in good old PSI for the 225/50 x 17, fully loaded be, please? :wonder:

1 bar = 14.5 PSI.

Summer or Winter tyres? :giggle:

An extra 0.2 of a bar if they're winter tyres.

I put 36psi in mine when the car is fully loaded, it's been fine.

Thanks folks, knew I'd get a quick answer! B)

Think I will have the backs at 40psi with the caravan hooked-up.

Beware on the A470, M4, M5, A30 tomorrow, Yr Yeti Cymraeg are off to Cornwall!! :giggle:

And Kitten & I are off to our static caravan in Poole on the 23rd

Hi Graham

I will keep a weather eye open for you and Sheila and the outfit as I traverse the Beacons at about half nine. Be sure to toot and wave as you travel between Builth and Brecon!

Have a great break.

George

Toot toot.

1 bar = 14.5 PSI.

Not to be picky, but 1 Bar = 14.7 psig.

The recommended 2.2 bar = 32 psig at part load.

I run 2.4 bar all around as normal = 35 psig

Can't agree. 1 Bar = 14.503773773020924 psi (i.e 14.5 as near as makes no difference)

I disagree further..........

1 bar = one Galaxy lover

2 bars = one VERY happy Galaxy lover

3 bars = an EXTREMELY happy Galaxy lover :D

It makes no sense, but you are correct:

1 Atm = 706 mm Hg = 14.7 psig.

that a Bar should not be equal to 1 atmospheres pressure makes me long for the old metric system, where things related in an understandable fashion - or even the UK/US inch etc. system.

The SI system redefined it.

(Sorry! but 25 years dealing with high pressure gas for a living - sorta leaves its mark)

Whats SI ? You mean after 34 years in Aviation I've been wrong and it's not 14.7psi anymore. :'(

SI as defined by B.S. 3763 1970

SI units was after the French Le Système International d'Unités which opted for a universal, unified and self-consistent system of measurement units based on the MKS (metre-kilogram-second) system.

Well you did ask!?!?!

1 Bar = Happy

2 Bar = Blurry

3 Bar = Oblivion

3 bars ???... I would think a very 'icky- picky' Galaxy lover !!!!

So I remembered right then.

As I have winter tyres fitted they are all at 2.4bar. I too don't understand bar, even though I trained with SI units as well. I still work in psi, though my Massive compressor does do bar what makes it easy for me.

Mike

Google has a very handy conversion tool for all sorts of things, including bars to psi for example

It will even do currency conversions!
