Noisier engine....coilpack?

Featured Replies

Hi, I have tried searching but not quite sure what this could be....The car is a vRS and it has been mapped by revo (for a few years now) I have a CAI and have recently fitted a decat to the car.

I have noticed that the engine has become noisier, it still pulls well but does seem noisier.

I have a spare coilpack already, is it likely to be this?

Thanks

what sort of noise is the engine making?

adding a de cat will make the exhaust note noticeably noiser and the cai's make a noiser induction noise too.

if it's pulling well with no lumpy running or hesitation i doubt it will be a coil pack, odds on it's just the decat and cai together causing it

The engine itself just sounds noisier....to the extent that you cant hear the CAI as much, the revs at tickover are slightly different too sometimes causing a bit of a vibration.

Would a coilpack failing cause it to run lumpy all the time...It seems to hesitate a little sometimes

decatting is like removing a silencer as such so you will always get an increase in noise there. as for the engine being noiser i would'nt of thought it would cause that. what exhaust systems on the car?

i've not experienced a coil pack going but i assume it will be running on 3 cylinders so would be lumpy all the time with an erratic tickover and would'nt be nice to drive. best thing to do to check is while it's ticking over remove each coil pack one by one checking to see if it idles different with each one removed, if it stays the same with a certain one off you know thats the cause

I can't see it's being a coil pack, I've had a couple fail and the car becomes almost undrivable! Uneven tickover is more likely to be vac hose split or lose.

I would be checking the oil strainer in the sump...
