Yeti's spotted (plural!)

Featured Replies

I did an 800 mile + round trip from the East Riding of Yorkshire up to Scotland and back at the weekend and clocked up the grand total of eleven Yeti's spotted over two days.

I followed a black up the A1(M) on Friday afternoon for about 25 miles until they turned off at Scotch Corner, then on the IRC Rally Scotland, sponsored by Skoda, all the course cars were Yetis! (Chief Marshal, Spectator Control, MSA Stewards, Safety000, Safety00 and both closing cars as well as three Yetis used by some French TV company and Eurosport - who were providing live TV feed from the stages!)

I got lots of people asking for my comments on my SM, but they all seemed a little put off by the waiting period (although some mentioned that they'd also had to wait comparable periods of time for their vehicle of choice too - unless they were prepared to take what was on offer.)

Have you got any nice photos from your weekend?

I took some photo's, yes, but because each time a course car came through the stage and part of my duties involved waving a yellow flag at them, from what I've seen so far, I have blurred photographs!

I will upload what's useable later.

I'm surprised you didn't get an invite though - one of the junctions I was marshalling at, there were more Skoda UK personnel than ordinary spectators!

Evidently Skoda had 130 personnel "supporting" the event - not including the official support team! Rumour has it they certainly had a cracker of a party in Perth on the Friday night!

Official Announcement.

I arrived home last evening after three and a half weeks away in northern Spain and France, a journey which involved driving down to Plymouth, taking the ferry to Santander, then driving up to visit friends in south-west France, across to our own flat in Aix-en-Provence and finally up to Calais via Beaune, Epernay and the Cote d'Opale before driving back up from Folkestone via our daughter's home in Rotherham.

Guess what - in a 2,500 mile drive I saw not one Snow Monster! The nearest I got was an advert for a second-hand 1.2 TSI in our local paper in Aix: it was only in for one day, so I guess it was snapped up pretty quickly.

They certainly are rare beasts. I arrived home half expecting to hear that my build week 48 had been put back, but no messsage from my dealer - I can't decide whether to call him or not!

I spotted a red Yeti on Lanzarote, as we drove from the airport in our crappy hire car (Astra) south, to the villa in Playa Blanca.

I wouldn't be suprised if there was a Skoda dealership on Lanzarote as most of the (red) taxi's were new Octavia's and Superbs? It was such a relief to get back into the SM after driving the astra around for a week :)

I spent 5 days in Czech the week before last - including 3 days with my wife's family close to the Polish border and 2 days in Prague.

I saw no more than a handful the whole time!

Sadly, due to my complete ineptitude, there is only one photograph that I'm not too embarassed to show on here and this is it!

There is one with my Yeti and it's little friend however.

I have put out a call for other photographs of the course cars, so fingers crossed someone else will have some.

we were operating the start line at ss9/11 Clashmore. This year unlike last the Yetis were on standard road tyres, punctures were plentiful. Last year they ran on Bridgestone M+S Tyres although the event was held around 20 Nov so that may have been why.

Did I see your car parked at the arrival control at Clashmore at 6am yesterday?

I watched the live coverage from the comfort of my armchair.

Thought I caught a glimpse of one parked at a junction near to the end of the Lock Ard stage.

I was on post 6 in Clashmore as well as running B system control on Saturday in Errochty.

I had to drive the whole stage to get out as the Pajero behind me bottomed out on the ruts on the access road.

The stage was pretty reasonable, although there was a section towards the end where I really wished I had the rough road pack, M&S tyres and 4WD! My Yeti took it all in it's stride - unlike the poor marshals in the Peugot who couldn't get up the hill and eventually went back to look for another exit!

Onesque, my wife recorded the live feed and while I was watching it last night, like you, I thought I say a silver Yeti at the end of Loch Ard - Eurosport had a couple of silver ones hanging about and the French TV company had a light blue (Aqua?) one - which caused us no end of trouble as they seemed to turn up everywhere they weren't welcome - especially going WD through the finish on a live stage!
