Engine Knocking Noise?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I own a 2004 VRS and lately after driving a short distance I park at home or where ever so the car is idle, I can hear a fast sounding knocking noise.

Strange thing is i can only hear it from inside the car, the engine sounds fine from the oustside.

As soon as I apply a tiny bit of revs the knocking stops and the engine sounds normal, but if I let the revs drop back to normal again i can hear this annoying knocking sound but only from inside.

Any ideas?

I have the same issue, I thought it was due to buying cheap engine oil.

engine mount maybe?

You may have already tried this but have you opened the bonnet and sat in your car with it open? and get someone to examine the engine while you hear this noise and rev it?

perhaps something exhaust/cat heatshield area is knocking?

Grace digging I know but I have the same noise, it goes away as soon as you give it any revs but disappears when you dip the clutch.

if it goes when you dip the clutch would imagine its the dual mass flywheel rattling its *******s off.

Does that mean it's going to fail?

at some point it will do IF it is the dual mass flywheel

one thing i did when mine was worn.

start your engine leave it in neutral

press your clutch pedal all the way down

slowly bring the clutch up to roughly half way if flywheel is worn you should hear a knocking noise start

then as soon as you depress clutch pedal should disappear.

that is what i did at skoda and they were satisfied the dual mass flywheel was worn

sorry if im the bearer of bad news
