Right. So I've had the work carried out as detailed in my other thread 'The Damage'.

The guys at West End done a visual inspection for me and they've come back with the following;

Nearside CV Joint Clunking/Clicking (on its way out).

Sidelight doesn't work? Whatever that is.

Air Con Fan Constantly on. (Investigative work reqd.)

Engine Revving at idle (I knew this and thought - the way the last place explained it - that the coolant temp sensor was the solution to this) but it isn't. (Investigative work reqd.)

I've wrote down 'Susp buf' on a sheet of paper; as I recall it was some suspension component which was worn or wearing. Maybe on it's way out as well.

Contrary to the previous Garage's inspection the front pads and discs are worn and require replaced. (Last garage said the pads were fine although the front discs were pitted).

And finally there's an intercooler O-Ring which is knackered.

So that's stuff I'm likely going to have to get sorted now isn't it? On top of the eight hundred odd I'm already forking out.

I'm actually laughing to myself, but it's just another setback. Important that all the stuff is done now etc. etc.

So what I'm asking is... Much do you lot reckon I'll pay to have all this sorted? And any other commentary in relation to it is of course welcome.

If you ain't careful, you'll have made an old one into a new one before long.

The O ring could be the erratic idle

Sidelight is button's, that's if he means the number plate light bayonet type, otherwise it's a H7 @ £4 - £12 depending on where you buy one from.

Other things to check for the erratic idle are all the pipes on the top of the air filter box, the big one that goes to the turbo, and the maf.

Aircon fan is likely to be a regulator unit, or the unit in the dash that set it too, make sure you haven't just got it running on auto, select eco and see if it drops down.

Side light is a 5W capless wedge type, number plate lamp is a 5W festoon.

Dipped headlamp is H7.

You couldn't link us up to that CV Kit could you, I can't find it?

Scratch that - I got it via their mail order hotline, very helpful they were too!

£32, not bad. I'll get £30-40 labour at a local garage. Saving me £120 on what I've been quoted otherwise actually.

Cheers Supurbia.

Everything will be sorted bar the two investigative jobs - the air con and the engine idling.

The idling I think I'll have diagnosed and resolved locally but I'm told the air con always running on is a common problem with VAG cars; Passat, A4, Superb. Two hundred odd quid for a new unit as well, I hear.

I can't imagine what else it'd be.

Oh shoot me, I'll tell you where to check, the hose to the rear of the egr valve rubs through where it goes across the engine cover, this might be upsetting the apple cart, and you should get an eml warning if it has a hole in it.

Almost certain it will be an air leak somewhere.
