Headlight washers AND rear wash..........

Featured Replies

Hi guys, any help/advice would be helpfull!

My rear screen washer has stoped "spraying" AND the washers on the headlights too. Ive checked the boot and its dry, so it doesnt seem to be the problem with the pipe coming off.

The front windscreen still works fine.

Any ideas?

And before anybody asks, yes there is water in the bottle!!!!

Cheers

Separate fuse?

Or are they all fed by the same pump I wonder?

Frozen pipes?

It was pretty cold and a friend had frozen front screen pipes even though the screenwash was made strong enough that it should have been ok to about minus 8 degrees.

(The headlight washers worked, and they didn't try the rear just in case).

If you're unsure, then I'd top the screenwash up to a stronger solution (make it up to -16 degrees) and then wait until the car is warm.

The engine should heat the pipes for the screen after about 15 minutes of being up to temperature, but you might need a heated garage to defrost everything else.

IIRC they are all fed off a single pump, so I doubt it's a pump fuse.

If your screen wash is ok then it is unlikely to to be the washer fluid that has frozen.

Headlamp washer uses water pressure to push out the jets from the bumper - could be that water has frozen in and around the cover "gluing" it to the bumper and stopping it extending.

Thanks for the replys - its not frozen - had the problem about 2 weeks now.

Having a closer look today I noticed that after I tried to get it working, there was water from the bottle dripping from the bumper under the water bottle. Couldnt actually find were it was coming from because I didnt have time to take it all apart to get to the bottle.

Can you hear the pump working?

Assuming you can hear it when it sprays the windscreen, can you still hear it when you activate the rear wash?

This should help you to identify / eliminate pump / electrical faults.

My old non-Skoda car fed the rear screen by simply running the same pump used for the windscreen but in reverse.

Dripping water from the reservoir sounds to me like a damaged or blocked pipe?

Sorry, I should have said before - you can still here the pump - just no spray!

Same problem here, headlight washers and rear screen wash do not spray. I can hear the pump running but nothing happens.

No visible signs of dripping water from the front of the car.
