After looking more closely at my new JL speakers i have a nasty feeling that an 18mm baffle isn't going to cut the mustard in terms of clearance. I could spend a while with peices of wire to establish the depth of the cards. But before i do that does anyone know it anyway!

Ahem no, but I got a set of 65mm deep infinity Kappa's behind them ok, with Joel's help. Although having said that they're still vibrating the door card a bit. It seems the actual air movement from the woofer is vibrating the grill part of the door card, and I don't see how I'm gonna stop that without actually cutting the grill out and having a bare woofer :confused:

Cant you just put a few descreet air holes to allow the free movement of your bass thumper Jason?

Surely if you allow the pressure to escape it wont vibrate or move the door card.

Yeah, but as the grill is an integral part of the whole lower section of the door card, I don't feel confident cutting a precise 13cm hole in the grill. If I was going to do it, I'd probably cut out the entire grill bit, and try and smooth off the outside of the main part of the hole, maybe find a nice circular bit of trim to go in it?

So it doesnt have an air port then?

Have you tried a few strategically placed strips of Xtreme?

So how thick are your baffles then Devenutopia ?

Oh btw i managed to get the inner cards off and have dynamated them on the other side and also the inner skin :p there is a mini tut on TA if you are interested

The two together? Thought they were deeper than that? I remember there were two bits used, and one ended up being a bit thinner than the other. Probably was just over an inch then, yeha, say 27/28mm?

Yeah, its damn smart! :speaker: You still have lots of boot, unlike with mine!

if you port speakers you get more 'sound' but what you get is less distinct and precise, personally i'm a sealed speaker man if possible

The thought never occured to me to port the speakers I'm an SQ fairly so don't mention words like ported
