Washer fluid tank

Featured Replies

Rear washer not working. Found the cause - rear wash hose is only a few inches long at the front end of the car, from the washer fluid tank.

Can't find the other end of the hose, so presuming it is tucked away somewhere obscure.

Anyone know which way the hose goes at the front end of the car?

Further dismantling of is not something i want to have to do !

thanks for any help ! ;)

So, I found the other end of the rear washer hose at the front of the car - weirdly, it meets at a junction - one end of which leads to another pump (as far as I can see). Anyone know whether I;m right in thinking that there's a pump for getting water out of the washer tank, and then another to get enough pressure to make it to the back screen ?

Looks like the source of my problem was broken plastic connectors (why do they have to be so brittle ?)

Anyone know if it is possible to get replacement connectors anywhere other than a Main Dealer ?

Turns out the 3rd pump i found is for the headlamp washers. Didn't even know my car had any - i thought they were just blanking plates :D

Only had the car a couple of weeks, and of course I'm not standing at the front of the car when operating the washers. :D

Seems like you're having a conversation with yourself, lol

Anyway, the blanking plates (as you call them) on the front bumper are in fact the washers - they shoot out before delivering the fluids to the lamps. Get someone else to operate them as you stand at the front and watch - it's quite comical to watch in a way, but they only work if the lights are on. You can't miss them when sitting in the driver's seat.

Having established that you've got three sets of washers - one each for the front and rear screens and the lamps, they must have three separate pumps to operate independently. One of the usual causes for failure is the fluid freezing, expanding and popping off the joints. Make sure you always use a suitable anti-freeze, but NOT the type that goes in the radiator because that will strip off your paintwork.

Yep, in the absence of replies, I updated the thread in case the info was of use to anyone else making the same numpty assumptions and errors :D

Thanks for your input.

Much appreciated

You're welcome

Should only have two pumps, the one for the screenwashers runs in reverse for the rear and one for the headlamps, there is also a level sensor in the bottle. Both pipes are intergrated into the loom and the rear one runs into the car behind the brake servo.

Sorry for bumping something a few months old, but I was wondering about the windscreen washer level in the tank - I can find plenty of threads which discuss the low level warning light, but having looked at the washer bottle - which seems to end in an angluar round section plastic tube at the top, and I've REFM, I am still baffled by whether the washer bottle has a top fill level over which it should not be filled or not. In my Felicia I would just top it up as far as I could and just clip the lid on, but I am worried in the Octavia that I might overfill and damage something if I were to do the same.

Does anyone know if there is a fill level for the windscreen washer fluid in an Octavia Mk II Elegance please and if so where do I find it? Else can I just fill it to the top where the cap fits on please?

I just top mine right up to the filler cap and it's never come to any harm, you will be fine to brim it.

Countryboy - that's great thanks - it was just such an odd shaped tank that I thought it best to check.

Cheers
