Movie Download Sites

Featured Replies

Anyone know any good sites for downloading movies? I'm not on about the 'Special Interest' movies either. I've tried Kazaa and the full movies take ages to download and dont work as they're avi files.

Any Suggestions?

Learn how to use Grabit and get them from newsgroups.

With a decent newsserver you will get the full speed your connection allows.

Google for a program called "GSpot Information Appliance" and use that to examine the AVI. It'll tell you what codecs you need in order to view it. Then either google again for the codec (you'll probably just need xvid or something), or check out the codec section on Doom9.org (Clicky)

Any BitTorrent client once you get the hang of how to author DVDs from DivX/avi files

Any decent newsgroups you'd care to PM? ;)

alt.binaries.multimedia is great for us and uk tv shows (just got the first 4 eps of 24 season 4) , although some have their own group like a.b.m.startrek etc

alt.binaries.dvd and a.b.dvdr have plenty of films appearing

alt.binaries.movies.divx ........ well I'll leave you to figure that one out.

None of those seem to exist on my newsserver - news.ntlworld.com. Because pay-monthly servers seem expensive and have download limits, do you just have to be lucky with your ISP's free newsserver?

Ah , NTLs newsserver is next to useless.

You would have to pay for a commercial newsserver or change ISPs which is probably a bit too much

Thought as much :(

As it happens my 12 months with ntl are up soon and I'll have a look around to see if I can get a better deal. I like ntl as it's always worked, my connection has low latency or whatever it is that that 'broadband speed test' program linked to from here a while ago measures, and no download limit... but if I switch from cable to ADSL I can start comparing deals from many more providers... that's for another thread though ;)
