Winter Alloys and Tyres fitted

Featured Replies

Strange, my alloys have not been eroded by gritters/salt in 25+ years motoring!

Talk about taking my comment literally.

The salt binds the brake dust onto the wheels making it difficult to get off unless you wash them every week.

Also if you have any type of corrosion then it will eat in to the alloy bubbling the paint.

Whilst we are being pedantic what alloys did you have on your car 25+ years ago?!

Hi folks,

This seems as good a place to ask this as any. I cant seem to find any definitive set of answers to this so here goes:

What are the correct specs for a MKII Octy vRS for winter tyres (skoda specified) I cant find anything in my manual, infact I cant find anything vRS specific in the manual...

I believe:

tyres are 205/55/R16 - with a load rating of at least 92 and a speed rating of H or V?

wheels (for a vRS) need to be 16" x6J with a 5x112 bolt size and an offset of between 35 and 50?

What are the standard VRS wheel specs for the 18's - and what offset are they - how does a change in offset affect the geo and therefore potentially handling and wear?

Can anyone confirm or correct this info please before I order my winter wheels / tyres - I know I'm late only had the car 10 days...

Thanks,

Simes

See the thread about wheels sizes, message #7.

You can find the load rating requirement by looking on the ministry plate under the bonnet - look for maximum axle weights. Axle 1 is the front axle and Axle 2 is the rear axle. Divide the weights by 2 then look up to convert to minimum load indices, (which are legal C&U requirements).

Speed ratings are not legal requirements in the UK but may be in some other countries such as Germany - but generally best to pick the same as specified in your handbook or the nearest one down. It should be easily possible to find H and V rated tyres in the size you mention.

Pepperpot wheels then! I always fancied some gold Alleycats on my Alfasud, but it rusted away before I could raise the money.

Standard vRS Neptune alloy spec is:

My winter alloys:

16" 6J 5 x 112 with offset of 45 .....Tyres 205/ 55/ 16

They fit perfectly!!
