First of all, I liked the look of the car from the report in the 2009 winners issue of Top Gear magazine. That made my mind up to go for the Superb estate. I had thought about a Q5, a Mazda 6 and Mondeo but for More Bang for your Bucks there was only one coice for me.

Well, after 10 weeks of waiting she has arrived, and I have to say the car looks even better than I ever thought.

As you can see I did my own bit of "Life-Time" treatment after cancelling the AutoGlym option with the dealer. Mainly that was down to reading posts on this forum. I added the Sound Upgrade in it's place.

I got a snow foam lance, snow foam, Carlack 68 NSC and Collinite 915 wax from Clean Your Car in Slaithwaite for about 90 quid. The photos show the process that took a couple of hours from start to finish.

So, how is the car to live with?

Lots of good points, but a few niggles.

The car is a joy to drive. The manual box is wonderfully smooth and the 170 Tdi is so smooth and responsive. It just has to be better and better after the running-in period.

The suspension really soaks up the crappy roads we now have in the UK. The rear feels well planted and safe. Motorway cruise control is a doddle and picks up very quickly.

Steering is very responsive and you feel well in control with plenty of road feedback.

All round rear vision is good thanks to the pretty big mirrors. The useful and clever nearside mirror tilts down when reversing so that you can see the kerb. That's nice.

The memory key is brilliant and the seats are comfortable and supportive. The leather is fine but not top spec.

As I mentioned I went for the Sound Upgrade. Bose it 'aint but with a bit of work on the treble, mid and bass sliders the system sounds pretty good. I can't get my old iPod to work through the MDI however.

My iPhone 3gs paired without a fuss and downloaded my contacts too.

The lights. Well they are fan bloody tastic! I love the way they dance as you switch them on. Absolutely the best on any car I have driven. Night driving takes on a totally new experience.

Come home and Leave home headlight functions are a nice touch.

Fuel consumption is hard to guess at this early stage but is around 40 and a bit now. I expect I would get 45 - 50 on a run when the engine loosens up.

The electric tailgate is an option I was glad I went for. It is not as slow as some people have indicated in some car reviews. Inside the boot is enormous and the lights inside the lid help with loading in the dark.

I think this is the only car I wouldn't mind being a rear seat passenger. Back seats are limo-like and comfortable.

Build quality is up with that of my Audi. Rock solid. It feels well screwed together.

So, the niggles. We all know about the lack of the brolly. I can live with that, but no mats, no warning triangle and no first aid kit on a flagship model is ridiculous. There is also a bad reflection in the driver-side door mirror from the silver trim on the dash.

For all those waiting I hope you enjoy your car as much as I am.

Cheers, Phil. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Great pictures, fabulous car and great backgrounds. I think you should invest in some mudflaps though before the winter takes hold. They may be small but they are better than nothing.

Great photos., i was thinking it looked like Yorkshire and I was right ,after looking at your profile, wracking my brains whereabouts?

Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarkiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin sweet, how nice does that look.

It annoys me that Skoda leave the handbrake on the passenger side even for right-hand drive versions. I thought they swapped it over with the drinks holders, but looking at these pics i'm apparently wrong.

Congrats on a fantastic looking Superb though Phil! I'm guessing the ride height is simply down to the fact that it's the 4x4 option? I've not noticed it being particularly high on any other photos.

Whats with all the white foam? Is it allowed to let this go into the normal drain? or just in the ground?

Jesus, think that you may have been done there :giggle:

Snowfoam, it's no more harmful than shampoo, and you simply wash it away.

By no carpets you do mean mats ,not stripped out like a Landrover 110 from the 70s!

No mats.

When I looked at picture # 3 my thought was: If my wife caught me with making the house windows dirty(!) I would definitely have to do a lot of cleaning afterwards. A LOT!

That aside: It's a very stylish car. I like it! But you better keep it clean. And don't scratch it up! Enjoy!

In Germany any carwash on private ground with no industrial drain, no matter what kind of soap, isnt allowed and will be punished.

My lowly 'S' spec Superb came supplied with both a warning triangle, as well as a set of overmats. It actually came with two sets of mats as I ordered a set not knowing that a set would be supplied FOC. The spare set will come in handy as after about 80,000 miles the drivers mat usually develops a hole (currently almost 60,000 miles!).

excellent write up... love the look of the car but I would get it lowered a bit.

Nice looking car but i am surprised you dont have parking sensors its a big car.bill

Let's see what the Pennines winter has in store. Might need extra ride-height! Phil. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Sound advice on the mudflaps. Ordering some next week. Cheers, Phil. emoticon-0148-yes.gif
