Featured Replies

Hi.

Didnt get given the radio code...

Is it stored anyway?

Also, when i turn it on, it flashes SAFE then goes 1000, then no buttons do anything...

Ideas? Is painfull without the music!

EDIT: Just read i need to ring Skoda with the skz number? Is this free?

if its the original radio then the code should be stored in the car ECU. If the unit is asking for a code then its possible that either (A) the headunit is not the original one, or (B) an aftermarket HU has been fitted at some point and the "K" wire has been disconnected that the headunit gets the code from.

Skoda have not given radio codes out since 2001, since they are stored by the car and a normal person should not need to know it.

ah okay :) it's a 54 reg.

The owner did have a aftermarket HU. What does the k wire do etc. What is the best option for me to get it working?

Pull out the radio and check the wiring loom carefully. If there is an adapter in there then its not needed and can be removed, looked for any cut wires etc. and reconnect both ends if you find any,

The K line is used by the car to send the radio code, and for dealer diag equipment to diagnose faults in the headunit amoungst other things. If the K wire is disconnected then the dealer will not be able to get the code either.

Not really true on a Fabia, we have to remove the headunit to read the code anyhow as you can't access it with diag equipment on the Symphony.

The code has to be done now with VAS, most of the security functions have now gone off elsa.

... so what's the sticker on the inside front cover of my radio handbook giving a four digit code then?

Well, my 2001 Octavia vRS, 2005 Octavia Elegance and 2008 Superb were not supplied with radio codes.

Others report the same thing - check out this posting

They certianly havent sice transport mode was rolled out, I have to obtain it online with every PDi I do now, I note it on the job card though so we have a record of it.

So the only explanation I can think of why my 2007 car has it in the handbook is that the radio was replaced under warranty for the first owner?

Could have been, but having said that Fabia I didnt have transport mode.

(feeling a bit inadequate here not knowing what "transport mode" is... :wonder: )

p.s. the forum's clock's wrong - and it's not just an hour out - more like 55 minutes...
