bit of an odd noise

Featured Replies

Hello all

I own a 51 plate octavia tdi 110 manual and recently iv noticed like a clicking/cracking noise coming from behind the glovebox area or above the glovebox. The noise isnt there when your driving at normal speeds just when the car is idling or going very slowly ie stop start traffic. It seems to be every minute or so this happens and theres no warning lights come up or anything so i was wondering if this is something to be worried about or would anyone have an idea what it is?

cheers

Gary

Do you have climatronic? If so, it might the the early stages of the recirculation flap motor going.. which is a pain to get to and stupidly expensive for what it is. Try hitting the Recirc button mid-click and see if it stops.

how expensive are we talking ? and exactly how complicated is it ,is it possible to do it myself ?

cheers

If it does turn out to be that (which it may not) the motor is about £90 from a main dealer, which is laughable given that it doesn't really do much. The problem is getting to it - it's more like gynaecology than engineering! You have to work your hands up from under the glovebox to unfasten it and fiddle around with the linkage. There's no room to move, it's hard to see what's going on and you'll probably lose the skin off your knuckles. I'm not sure if anyone has even posted a photo guide to replacing is as it seems to be a very common problem.
