Clutch question

Featured Replies

The clutch on my '04 Vrs is starting to slip, so I thought I had better get some prices. As usual I am getting a range of prices and advice! Should I go for just a replacement standard clutch (cheapest option) clutch and dual mass flywheel (bloody expensive) or solid flywheel conversion (in the middle) ? The other option is changing it myself, then i could afford an uprated clutch (ready for a remap later on) but I have never changed a clutch before. Is it a reasonable DIY job to take on?

Where in country are you may help.

I had mine replaced here:

Cost £305 for clutch only replacement.

Generally the DMF is ok to not replace but in truth there is no way of telling until the clutch is out!

Mine was ok and they told me its cause i got it done so quick after it started slipping that it hadn't damaged the DMF as thats what normally happens. Clutch slips, folks keep driving for hundreds of miles and that fooks up the DMF.

I bit the bullet and converted it to single mass for under £440. That includes all genuine G60/VR6 parts and fitting by Awesome GTI in Manchester.

The advantage is that the clutch can take more torque, so will easily handle any mods you do while still using the original turbo, and you get a proper clutch feel back rather than the wooly dual mass girls flywheel!
