Re the factory fitted Columbus

SUK configurator states £1265 Brochure ( MY11 August 2010) states £1435

Confused again - how much did you pay?

As far as I know it has always been £1435 as a factory fit and £1,584 as a dealer fit (according to the accessory brochure). So the £1265 sounds like coming from the same porky-pie factory as the internal wood trim on the configurator. Though take a screen print of that price, take it to your dealer and insist on paying only that much. Has worked for me on many other things in life before.

I spotted this in the Internet:

Is this the same thing, do you think? Trade price = US$566

You are reading my mind.

Allena - the unit certainly looks the same (not the screen displayed). Retail is only shown as $700 and something. There might be a whole lot of 'ripping off' happening on parts and so on, but it is difficult to be sure if and, particularly, where it happens. Overall the Yeti and accessories represents great value, I think. But the pesky Columbus IS costly - I seriously doubt I would have had if it hadn't been already in the car I bought.

But other bits I have bought since, rubber mats and boot mat - I thought were exceptionally good value, based on past experience.

Roguebrit - yes, I agree with you. It seems to me - in my circumstances - that pretty generally, whereas the UK used to be called "rip-off Britain" that honour now quite clearly falls to France! Slightly off topic, but a good example of that statement, I was looking at the Osram 5xLED DLRs discussed in another Yeti thread, and they are at least twice the price in France as they are in the UK and Germany. :(

Slightly OT as well but I was amazed by the prices of the Yetis at the motor show in Paris: The Elegance 2,0 140 DSG (with standard sunroof and Amundsen sat nav but no Xenons and a few other missing bits) is 32,730 Euro!!!!!!!! nearly £10,000 more than we pay here in the UK for the same car! Must be tax?

900000 - No, that doesn't explain it really, I'm afraid. 19.6% is not a huge amount more than the UK, is it. I think it is simply 'what the market will bear' mentality

I think I have paid the configuator price for my columbus.

Selling my 'old' one as the new ones have slightly more capability than the older ones from the Octavia cira 2008.

Confirmed by SUK - any guesses to the correct price?

Update - SUK have been informed of their discrepancy so now the brochure & configurator prices agree - at the higher of the two figures needless to say!

Thats a cheap chinese cloan, it may have some panasonic components but thats it. The unit is very basic and although it looks like a columbus it certainly is nothing like it in use. Several members on here have bought simillar units and afterwards sent them back because some are really poor quality.

Thanks for the heads-up, Mannyo. :)

I wasn't, myself, thinking of buying one of these. I was just intrigued by the price.

(I have the Bolero with SD card et cetera, and my own 5" GPS unit that I'm intending to fit in the upper storage unit.)
