Engaging Reverse in Manual 1.8Tsi

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have driven vauxhalls for 15 years and am used to pulling up a catch to engage reverse.

In my new Octavia I have found a couple of times I have nearly engaged reverse a couple of times at roundabouts due to not having to push down very far to get through the gate to reverse. Does anyone else find this or am I just been a bit slow?

Andy

Don't push down unless you want reverse.

If you're finding reverse then your leaning too hard on the lever?

Yeah, deffo my fault but I rekon I only hav to push down 3mm and I get through the gate, even though there must be 15mm travel when you push down so why do they have it set so high or is it just mine?

Andy

Hmmm, on mine I have to push quite a way to pass through the gate.

I don't remember selecting reverse by accident

Maybe the spring on your lever has lost some of it's tension so the lever isn't rising back as high as it should?

Someone who has more knowledge of how the lever works will be along soon...

Mine needs a good firm push down to get it into reverse, from what you've said it sounds like yours is going into reverse too easily as I've never accidentally engaged reverse on mine.
