Coilovers ride height

Featured Replies

I'm looking at replacing my current suspension with coilovers but i'm unsure as to whether or not due to not wanting to lower the car to much over the winter months.

Currently not sure if i want to fork out for KW V3's due to the cost, but they do have an appeal.

What i'm after is what is the minimum that these can be lowered as not to upset the ride.

Most people may be running the Weitec set up,so please let me know how much you have lowered it.

Looking at maybe 10-15mm drop from standard height.

think I posted something similar, Answer I got was Weitecs, but not sure if they are stainless and what their life expectancy is.

kw3 are amazing but imo the car need to be tracked alot to make it worth having #

for fast road weitecs where fine

slammed on the ground is the best way lol

i had mine at 2 cm between tyre and arch :giggle:

you can tell the difference between the 2 though, weitecs are harsher than the v3s and v2s if setup properly as they have rebound adjustment.

snow_muncers 4x4 with v3s is less harsh over bumps and potholes than my weitecs are.

weitecs are good dont get me wrong, but am going over to v2s shortly, am running weitec fronts at mo and v2 rears....dont ask!

Mines dropped 17mm on the front and 5mm on the rear, with Weitec's. That was measured a year ago though, so things like the top mounts might have squished a bit by now!

You've driven my car (briefly!) and seen it plenty of times so you know it still looks standard to the average passer by. Handling is spot on, and I have no funny tyre wear. She's running a bit of negative camber on the rear now, but nothing serious. I've just replaced both rear wheels and tyres so I can inspect the rear tyre wear. Looks like there's only 1mm extra wear on the insides. I had the fronts off too to give them a wax, and the wear is even. Comfort is fine for me, and better than I expected. I do a lot of long drives in the old girl (West Yorkshire to the Austrian/Italian border a couple of times a year), and have never thought it to be too hard. I don't even get a complaint from my softer-bottomed passenger!

I removed all the mudflaps because they are ugly as hell, and the fronts got caught on those big rubber strip type speed bumps that you get in NCP carparks. Other than that I've never bottomed her, and the front bumper is still looking good! I can get on and off a ferry still without scraping, which was my main fear!

I think if I did it again, I'd spend the extra cash and get the KW v1 Inox. Purely for the stainless front struts, because the zinc coating on the basic v1's and the Weitec's won't last forever. I'd never bother with the v2's or v3's because I wouldn't want the faff of damping adjustment on a road car. That's just me though.

I've had the Weitecs for 1.5yrs now, and they've been faultless

As mentioned the KW V3 are a superb kit but you need to be tracking the car to get the full benefit out of them.

If your wanting stainless steel then the KW V1 Inox Line are a very good option and set up pretty spot on for everyday fast road use.
