Cornering lights in reverse

Featured Replies

I have just noticed that both the front fog lights that also act as cornering lights seem to come when I put the car in reverse. They work perfectly well when I go forward and just one lights depending on which way I turn. Can someone confirm whether this is right or not. I am concerned I have a fault of some kind.

Thanks.

Simon

No there's no fault, they are designed to do that.

Do we know why? It's one of the only things I can't fathom on the SM. If I stop in the road to reverse onto the drive or parallel park, I end up blinding anything coming towards me at the beginning of the manouvor!

Hi Focus,

I think the idea is they act as manoeuvring lights, so you can more clearly see were your swinging your nose while parking in unlit areas.

If you dont like them they can be switched off by the dealer.

Not wanting to start the fog light debate but you're unlikely to "blind" or even dazzle anyone with your fog/cornering lights.

As TP has already confirmed, when reversing you aren't always looking backwards, especially if you are reversing around a corner, any additional illumination will help
