Hi everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself first. My name is Tim and I own a 1999 slx tdi. I have had 2.5 yrs trouble free motoring. Unfortuneatley I was travelling in 5 th gear on the motorway when suddenly the engine started to rev wildly on it's own. The car appeared to be still in gear but sounded as if had dipped the clutch. A v large cloud of smoke appeared from the exhaust. I pulled over to the hard shoulder and tried to re start but without success.

Not sure whether I have blown the turbo.

Previous to this I had over filled engine oil . Any advice would be appreciated as car has been towed to garage near work 20 miles away.

Did you remove some oil before this incident ?

If not, it could be a blown gasket.
