Uprated ARB + Rear beam bushes for my vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Got a mammoth repair bill yesterday so need to order some new bits. Need to replace (as well as plenty of other things) rear axle bushes and ARB bushes and wondered if anyone had fitted up-rated ones such as powerflex?

Guessing the powerflex ARB bushes would fit because they are 23mm and the other option is 21mm and rear axle bushes i'd imagine to be the same through the range but if someone could clarify that would be great

Are there any advantages (other than longevity) of fitting these uprated bushes, will I really notice a difference in handling and body roll, I can understand with the ARB as it will be less compliant than the original rubber but will it make it handle better?

I'll probably still order than regardless as they will probably outlast the car.. Is a garage going to get arsey with my if I hand over uprated rear beam bushes, I hear standard ones are bloody hard to fit as it is :giggle:

any help would be great,

Lew

Wouldn't bother with the poly rear beam bushes. They make the ride harsh, as they don't have internal voids to dampen road vibrations. The oem ones aren't that hard to do anyway. I did them on my drive in a few hours.

I'd use these instead:

Fabia vRS bushes

As for the ARB bushes, there is a plastic collar moulded round the bar where the bush sits. Over time this cracks and starts rattling etc. The best thing to do is to remove the plastic collar, and fit smaller 17mm buhses instead.

Cheers mate, I won't be doing stuff myself anyway to be fair. I'll avoid the polybushed rear beam bushes then don't want to ruin an already pretty harsh ride , are the fabia ones a straight fit and a better product? and cheers for the info on the arb bushes i'll be doing that.

Would these be a good idea?

Those are old obsolete bushes. They were originally fitted to the mk4 golf before the solid rubber ones. They are filled with oil, but tend to burst after a few years. I think you need special tools to fit them too. A big hammer might split them.

You want to be looking for either fabia vrs, ibiza cupra r, or leon cupra r (expensive) ones. They look differnt to the normal ones.

Have a look on this thread Briskoda Rear axle bush guide

There's a picture showing the difference.

Do you supply the bushes? If you do could you do me a deal if I were to buy a few parts from you?

Didn't know that. I just assumed they were solid.

How do you rate them compared to the fabia vrs / lcr etc bushes?

We can supply the bushes no problem, ping me off an email and I'm sure we can work something out : )

The Powerflex are much easier to install than other bushes, whilst also lasting the lifetime of your car, I don't understand this whole using the Fabia bush thing? It's a lighter car so a softer bush which means more dislocation during hard cornering and over large bumps, not good !
