Bent jacking points

Featured Replies

I've just spotted that some duffer has bent the areas around my jacking points, slighly back from the official jacking point, probably with a trolley jack or something.

WIll this be an MOT failure?

:(

Assuming the chassis rails are undamaged and the skin is only bent and not punctured, then it isn't an MOT failure.

If the underseal has been damaged, then reseal the skin, so it doesn't rust.

Is it possible/adviseable to straighten the sill lip? Mine are a bit bent. Seems a common issue.

Also whats best to reseal the cracks in the sealant?

I wouldnt bother, most Octy MK1s end up with bent sills as they are very soft. I would leave them be, they will not fail an MOT like it, and trying to correct them can lead to more damage.

Agreed. No effect on MOT, will always happen and a DIY repair may fatigue and snap the metal as you fold it back. Just leave it alone, and do what you can to warn garages not to jack on the sill to prevent further damage.

Maybe print this off: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/175461-official-vehicle-jacking-points/

The proper fix would be to get it in a bodyshop, but that's going to be expensive. I've always meant to get a quote but not got round to it. I'd expect to pay about £400-600 for both sills to be straightened and re-sprayed. Maybe more....

i bent mine back as they looked an arse from the side, pair of mole grips. then undersealed the lot
