MkI will not clear windscreen ?

Featured Replies

Can anyone help with this ?

Heater blower functions OK, but will not direct air to windscreen sufficiently to clear it.

There is some flow from the windscreen vent, but it doesnt increase when I press the windscreen button on the control.

Also, it doesnt seem to blow as fast as it used to, even on full speed ?

Any ideas appreciated !

Probably best to run a diagnostic on the various fans and flap motors. Also try cleaning the inside of the screen with a decent polish as a slightly greasy coating can increase your demisting time.

I've found the same problem with mine. I was wondering whether or not it was all Octavias that had rubbish screen demisting?

also check pollen filter isn't blocked.

The windscreen demisting on the mk 1 is and always as been demic, it didnn't improve much on the mk 2 either.

It's the first thing I noticed with my Octavia. Bad design. Most cars I have owned have an air vent right at the bottom of the screen which stretches the full length. The Octavia vent is small and shoved half way down the dash. The worst bit of design on the car....

I don't know about br1zz's car, but with an L&K, exercising the various direction control flaps by semi-randomly pressing the various control buttons on the Climatronic panel (engine running) may clear issues caused by stuck flap motors.

Other stuff that will help includes using the air con (Auto or demist mode on Climatronic), and checking that the door drains are all clear.

Also try cleaning the inside of the screen with a decent polish as a slightly greasy coating can increase your demisting time.

I have found this to be the case too, the inside of the screen seems to get dirty much quicker if you have your sunroof open during the summer months.

Quite a few things to check tomorrow - thanks everyone.

Can you help with another point; when I activate the direction controls, should I hear the flap motors operating as I vaguely recall, or did that never happen ?

I have noticed the slow de-misting before, but this is much, much worse and is likely to be a nightmare this winter if I dont get it fixed !

Air-con on 'LO' setting always cleared the screen pretty quickly when it was wet outside.

If you're switching to the windscreen clear mode, you should hear a slight 'whump' as the flap closes and the the fans will spin up to full speed. You don't hear much other than a change in where the air rushes if you switch to straight ahead or footwell.
