Help Screen washer stopped working

Featured Replies

Went out to the car drove about a mile screen covered in salt washed screen washers stopped, refilled water bottle tried washers nothing, checked fuse all OK could the pump on the washer bottle have packed up???

Try squirting them while parked. Listen for the pump and look to see if you are leaking water onto the ground. If you can hear the pump and you have a puddle, then the tube has probably come away. This usually happens if you don't have enough screen wash added and the water in the tubes freezes. It expands and pushes the tube off a connecter.

No sound from the pump, just a click when you pull the leaver back, no leaks either, I even changed the fuse just in case

The obvious comment of the pipes or tank are not frozen are they?

May not be the case, but always worth a check as a frozen pump won't make any noise.

Bugger, guess it's down to checking the wiring or the pump then.

Just on this subject, I was on a driving course in the UK recently with a currently serving police officer as my instructor-he told me it is now a £60 & 3 points offence to have an empty washer bottle!!!

Surely not.

Driving with a filthy windscreen and poor visibility, now that I would believe.

An awkward garage could fail your MOT too if the bottle was empty............

Crikey. A quick Google reveals all the above is true :o

Apologies for disbelieving, gents.

I had the belt changed last week, and I am hoping that all that's happened is the wiring to the pump has come loose, will get it checked tomorrow

Garage removed the outside grill, undone the wire to the pump gave it a clean, reconnected it did not work, gave the pump a hart tap, and it worked outcome pump needs replaced
