Indeed, i`ll also get my mates since when his went in for work recently, they gave him a loan car. Unlucky he broke his leg, but his mum used it for the week, since she was allowed to be insured on it too. Ahhh :rofl: bell

wow i didnt think this post would cause such concern if i was insured on the volvo, well i can happily say a quick phone call to my insurance company and £20 later i was insured for the day :D fully comp as well!

i have a long list of stuff i have had to do to my car in the last year alone it's needed door seals, gear box rebuild (4th decided to pop) new clutch, new bushes, tyres windscreen, starter motor (dealership left the main power lead loose which burnt the starter out) and other problems,

ive done some searching on the internet and the type of s40 i want (the t4 r design) brand new is £29,000 but with 2 years and 20000 miles brings it to £13000 which for what it is is a bloody good deal, like a dealership told me volvo's loose most there value in the first 2 years then level out and don't really loose much more after that and looking online the prices back his comments

In all seriousness, if your finding running a vrs fabia expensive then going for a volvo isnt going to be any better, in fact IMO it will be worse, never mind being a more expensive car to buy.. My dad bought a new c70 a few years back, and lets just say he would be long shot of it if he didnt have the warrenty on it..

Although volvo parts would be cheaper than some, im quite confident they are more expensive than skoda parts.

ive had my vRS for about 3 weeks and think its awesome, ride comfort is great, pulls nicely, build quality i personally think is better than my old mk4 ibiza. its good on fuel its cheap on tax, its in the vag group so you know its built by a good company, its got a great engine which has numerous top notch reviews as its in the ibiza pd130 and FR tdi also. Im 20 and wouldnt consider a volvo at this stage, if i had the money yeh i would look at a C30 but this is a great little car. give it time mate, often all problem come at once but once fixed they should hopefully all fade away. at the end of the day its your call but maybe your giving up to fast?

All cars take a big hit in their value in the 1st few years. Maybe your VRS is a lemon, maybe it wasn't looked after by the previous owner. But whatever car you're running; if you're out of warranty, it's gonna cost you when things need replacing. But the best part of a Skoda is that a lot of what they use is old and widely used. Or in other words, very tried and tested, easily available and cheap. You'd probably find that if it wasn't for emissions requirements and the race to save the planet there would be even more of a gap between fresh engine tech getting from an Audi to the latest Skoda.

If you're after cheap motoring I'd think twice before moving to a different brand.

I fell out of love with my Fabia vRS 2 years ago after having paid £450 for the cam/ water pump, was told that the bushes would need replacing in 12 months time, That was the time i thought - ouch this is going to cost me money.

Hind sight is a wonderful thing, & having replaced the Fabia, I wish I had kept it longer, even to the point where i would have been replacing the Fabia with the Octy I have on order. Yes it would have prob cost me another £400 but it was wear & tear, & I could have put cupra bushes on which would have lasted longer than the Skoda ones.

My advice is if the car does what you want with regards to size, performance, etc then accept wear & tear costs, as alex fungusface said recently - ' the cow in the other field is not necessarily better than the one you have '

If you're so concerned about uninsured drivers, get with direct line :) they like to advertise how they cover you against uninsured drivers.

im not slagging off skoda fabia's because when i bought it i was head over heels and was for 5 months then the gearbox went and needed a new clutch, then the starter motor went leaving me stranded :( after that i fell back in love again and all was well until more problems came up and we fell out, i think if my dealership was better then i would have a different view but i have had to push for every warrenty item i.e door seals,

in the last 2 months i have spent about £1000 on her with cam belt, service, tyres and suspension parts to improve the handling and i feel like it's becoming a endless pit of money, i don't want to be splashing out on more bits,

i have looked after her so much and it seems like if i do something to improve her she kicks me between the legs and sends me a bill for other parts!!

my dad has owned a s40 t5 and it was a awesome car and made trips a pleasure, he's now ordered the new s60. when ever we go into volvo we are met with a cup of tea and they can't help you enough and nothing is to much trouble! there is always a loan car waiting fully valeted and usually near top of the range (skoda gave me the basic of basics) always filled to the brim with fuel and give you a 1/4 tank fuel free before they ask to top it up, i just feel the service with volvo is a higher class.

i know ill miss the little fabia but i feel it's time :(

How can you call it a money pit, when all the above are maintenance apart from the suspension, and obviously when you upgrade the suspension it will cost you.. Thats like me saying my cars a money pit because I spend over £1000 on a new headunit and porsche alloys and tires for it in the past few months(shocks me now as I think about it). In that case any car could be called a money pit.

In fairness going to the volvo garage is most certainly a much more pleasant experience than the skoda garage, but your buying a more exclusive brand of car, which is more expensive their for obviously going to be a better all round service, just as I expect you would get a better service at a ferrari garage etc.. As for getting a better courtesy car, if this influences you on the choice of car you buy then fair enough.

Dont get me wrong, i love volvo`s and will probably buy a t5 c30 when ever I can afford it, but I know ill have to allow for the more expensive cars. If you can afford to run one then go for it, but don't expect it to be easier to maintain than a vrs fabia..

I think you should. The build quality between them are worlds apart.

They handle so much better being independent unlike the lardy rear beam.
