Goodbye 1.9 TDi, hello 1.4 TSi DSG!

Featured Replies

My trusty 1.9 tdi Elegance estate has gone back after 3 years, and the replacement 1.4 tsi Elegance estate has arrived!

Company car so on contract hire. It arrived by transporter, which I was not expecting at all, so it only had 6 miles on the clock. Arctic Green - love the colour, really pleased I chose it. I've got the DSG this time as I do a lot of short stop/start journeys (hence why I gave the 1.6 tdi with its dpf a miss!) - still getting used to the dsg after decades of manuals. Also got 3 spoke mfsw, folding door morrors, full size spare wheel. It also came with a warning triangle, first aid kit, hi-visibility vest, tyre pressure gauge, tyre tread depth gauge and a full set of good quality floor mats - none of which I was expecting, must be a courtesy measure by the provider, so top marks to Ogilvie Fleet!

The only thing is I ordered Ivory cloth interior and it has come with Onyx. Having my eldest son vomit in the old car a few weeks ago, I'm now thinking Ivory isn't the best choice anyway, but I just don't really like black interiors - I find them rather dark and oppressive. I'm not sure what to do - might go back to the original broker and see what the options are, but guess I might just as well keep it with the Onyx, I'm not waiting another 3 or 4 months for a new one with the correct trim.....

Happy new motor!

The Ivory upholstery looks great in the showroom though I am not so sure about the Ivory plastic trim that goes with it! I agree about the black and just wish they would do a mid-grey or similar just to remove some of the gloom. FL Elegance dash is nicely brighted up by replacing some of the black centre console trim with aluminium.

Failure to supply ivory upholstery may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Mate had ivory cloth in his Octavia - it never looked clean. He got in once soaking wet after being out in the rain - drivers seat had a tide mark that looked as though he had p155ed himself.

You could always play the aggrieved party though - tell them you will accept the Onyx trim but expect a little sweetener - maybe some Skoda accessory vouchers?

Sounds like a nice car. I currently run an Audi A3 2.0 TDI CR 140 DSG in silver with a grey interior. I'm also now that keen on black interiors having had quite a few in the past in Golf GTIs etc. I'm considering changing to a Octavia Elegence Estate with the same 2.0 TDI engine and DSG as my Audi. Basically I have some some problems with the muscles in my legs and arms and have started having to use a mobility scooter. The scooter does break down into parts but it's still quite difficult for me to lift it over the lip of the A3's boot. An estate version of the A3 would be ideal but Audi don't make one so I decided to look at the Skoda., especially with the variable boot floor option making the floor flush with the rear bumper. I'm not keen on the Ivory interior but when I looked at a second-hand Octavia Elegence Estate in the local dealers on Sunday the Black Onyx it didn't seem to dark and with the light coloured headlining I think I could live with it. The one thing I would definitely not what to give up is the DSG. I'm on my 3rd A3 with one and would never want to drive another manual.

The current range seem to have acquired an excellent reputation and with the current no VAT deals they make good financial sense although I will be sorry to move away from my A3. My current one is only just 2 years old and it's my 7th A3.

The spec I am considering is:

Octavia Elegence Estate 2.0 TDI-140 CD DSG with the following extras:

Xenon Headlights

Electric drivers seat with memory and electrically adjustable and folding mirrors

ESP etc

3-spoke multi-function steering wheel

Silver roof rails

Auto dimming rear view mirror, rain sensor and light assistant

Floor mats

Full-size spare wheel.

Any comments on the spec would be much appreciated.

Auto dimming rear view mirror and rain sensor is standard on Elegance.

Yes, the grey headlining and door pillar trim together with the light trim around the dash and console do help, but its still rather black to me! You certainly see the grubiness and stains after 3 years with Ivory - things you wouldn't see with Onyx.

If anyone wants a set of official floor mats in Ivory, let me know - 3 years old but very nearly as good as new
