Double din units?

Featured Replies

Has anyone put a double din unit into the fabia? I'm looking at the alpine ixa w404r, what else do I need to buy to get this to fit?

An Aeriel booster & the infill piece for the dash!

Former from Halfrauds or ebay, The latter from your Skoda dealer!

Should get both for about a tenner!

Cheers spending enough on the unit so just needed to make sure that I didn't need to spend a lot getting it in!

I have a Kenwood DNX7240BT in mine. Top piece of kit. As stated above all you really need is the FM signal booster and the 1cm tall trim piece from a Skoda dealer.

Looks really nice mate, I'm just getting bored of the single din units now!

Do exactly as what everyone else says, but you may need to cut away some of the plastic behind the double din to make more room for wires and to help with the heat it generates.

Thanks. You can get a huge amount of functionality in a double DIN unit. The only issue is the cost. The Fabia wasn't too bad (it was put in complete for £900) but the TT was pushing £1500 with the parking cameras and the TV tuner (so I can get DAB radio on Freeview would you believe :dull: ) and if my new Touareg ever arrives that's looking like it's going to be megabucks to upgrade the sound system in that as well. But once you have all that functionality it's very hard to live without it.

Anybody recommend a double din that has decent iPOD support? I've an Alpine xDA300 at the moment and while its meant to be iPOD focused its worse than useless at navigating a large (hundreds if not thousand or so) artists/albums on my iPOD. I want one that lets me browse by letter rather than making me cycle through every single artist.

Have a look at the alpine I'm going to get seems to be getting good reviews

Yeah looks nice, the screen might be a little small for watching movies in the back but the music functionality seems very good. I'm really keen to get something that allows me to scroll through my full ipod catalogue easily as my current alpine is a pain in the ass. It only seems to recognise the files up to the letter H as there are about 14000 tracks on it.
