Doors

Featured Replies

Recently my two front doors have started rattling/knocking... Ifi grab the interior handle, and push and pull quite hard you can feel it move, and with rough roads about my area it starting to do my head in!!

Plus I've got a rattle behind the middle dash vents, anything common behind there that rattles??

their are 3 bolts holding the interior handle on, maybe one or two have come loose

IIRC you prise off the front top section and the back section slides forward and comes off

sorry don't know if i explained that right, it's the whole door that rattles, not the handles :S

anyone?? i have looked at everything holding the door on and it looks tight, really confusing me as to what it can be... :'(

Does the window struggle at all? Or has it been replaced in the past? Could be one of the little clips that can snap on the window mechanism is wobbling round inside the door itself?

It's not anything inside the door, it's the actual whole door moving around the frame on the car, when i go over bumps the whole door bangs and rattles :o

Oh, I see - sorry.

Not the hoop bit that the lock catches on is it? Was in by the B-pillar. Think it's a silver U shaped thing attached to the main body of the car. Unless you've checked that too I'd have no idea.:S

No probs, not really best of explanations by me :giggle:

They are solid as are the mechs on the door! maybe the actual lock bit in the door is buggered?

Open the doors and check for movement, grab the door and try and move it up and down (gently) or in and out and check if any of the hinges are loose. Otherwise it could be the locking mechanism not holding properly, you've not slammed the door shut with something trapped in it recently? Check that the pin in the door frame isn't overly worn or bent as this could cause that.

Na, it's just me - I should be in bed really, knackered.

Could be the mechanism I guess.

Can you see the door moving then? Cos when I was looking at Golfs, they were saying the 3drs can suffer from the doors (which are huuuge) dropping slightly. Maybe the same has happened with you and the hinge has bent slightly?

Out of interest, how does the hinge attach to the door, is it bolted or welded?

I should be in bed too, but promised the gf i'd pick her up as she's on a night out :S

Also i don't know how the doors are attached, when i go out to the car later i'll check!! The door seems to open and close perfect though, unlike some mk1 golfs i've had :giggle:

I'll put my money on the speaker cover.....try pushing it in and see if the rattle stops..

I have a problem on the passenger side... I'm seriously considering dousing the bloody door in WD40 to get rid!!!!

Edited for what i'm going to do lol :giggle:

I had the door cards off yesterday doing the front carriers as mine were leaking and all seems good and tight, although there is a smaller knocking/rattling coming from the area under the door pin, could be related :|
