The turbo on my ASV seems to be making a very faint 'police siren' sound, very similar to the sound my old Octy2 2.0TDi used to make at low revs. Only mine is making it at all revs and it is definitely proportionate to the turbo activity as keeping almost identical revs but slightly fluctuating the accelerator to induce a bit of spooling makes the sound change pitch.

Now, it's audible with the radio off, but isn't very loud. Does anyone have any thoughts? A bit of googling suggests either imminent turbo failure (let's hope it isn't that) or a leak somewhere in the system. My primary concern is causing damage by driving it in this state - if it's a case of something wearing out and it'll just happen anyway, then I'll carry on until it breaks then get it sorted.

my fiats been making this noise for thousands of miles now, and is still going!

all the octy II's we use for RRV's at work make the same noise too, I wouldn't worry too much Rob, just turn the stereo up!

Update: It is now chattering a bit at anything from 1500rpm upwards (and at idle when cold), there is no power to speak of and plenty of smoke on anything other than a gentle throttle. :( Any thoughts?
