Engine Oil

Featured Replies

They all look a good price. Last week I bought 5l of Millers XFE-PD for £31 (inc VAT) and that was at Trade Price from a local Motor Factors.

They all specify that they meet the requirements for PD engines, so any of them would probably do. However I wound not buy the first one as it states it's a 10W-40 and we need 5W-40.

I have only heard of Comma and Quantum, so I'd probably go for one of them. I think Skoda Dealers use Quantum or Castrol oils for servicing.

5litres of fully synthetic Quantum Platinum 505.01 spec oil...

£25 inc VAT from any VW dealer!

My dealer uses Shell 5W-30 Helix Plus which they assure me complies with 505.01

VW TPS dealers are selling

Quantum 507.00 5litres for £27 inc vat

Long life oil, I've been using it happily in my Fabia TDI, change every 10,000 miles

I'm another one that runs long life 507.00 spec oil. Mobil ESP is about £30 for 5 litres from Asda

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll give the dealer a buzz in the morning to check the prices. may aswell go for them if they are £25.

Yes I went through that list on that sticky, most of the oils are £30+! Why so expensive? I used to change my lil petrol for £15 a pop, so I did it quite often :p.

Quantum Platinum 5l has an RRP of £25, trade price of around £19 - may well be available from a dealer. Quantum is part of VW, and it rumoured to be Castrol (according to TPS). Could be worse ... could be LongLife III ... ;)

I normally get the newer 507 spec oil for myself. It worked out to be roughly 90quid for 4 X 5litres. I bought them from ebay. My dad and brother have pd engines so they get used up quite quickly. I got fed up of spending 38quid for only 4litres for my local parts shop. Cant remember which seller I bought from but if you do a quick search you should be able to find it. Make sure it's the correct spec for PD engines.

I buy 4x4ltrs of Q8 505.01 oil for about £54 inc vat or£3.38p a litre. It isn't VW approved but it does meet the 505.01 spec and I get it cheap.Once it runs out I will probably switch to Motul or morris

digressing a little here(probably quite a lot)...the Quantum brand is currently using castrol but it could change next year depending on who gets the contract. Dont get too excited over castrol as although it is a well known name, be aware this could be their dregs (why would they use their best quality base oils) and it is NOT VW approved. It meets the VW requirements as does the off the shelf additive package, as do most 505.01 or 507 oils but it actually isn;t officially tested by VW germany. So quite funny really as VW's own brand Quantum isn't actually VW approved.

The only oil i'm aware of that is fully 505.01 approved is motul VW 505.01 specific. Opie sell this. Morris lubricants also do an excellent PD 505.01 spec oil which can be bought from their website and it is VW approved. it's quite expensive compared to Quantum but you're paying for the better quality base oil and additives, and specifications.
