Can I drive an automatic ?

Featured Replies

I passed my test about 7 years ago in a manual car but will be getting a new vRS which is automatic.

I was looking at the categories on my licence (B, B1, f, k, l, n, p) but I see on the direct.gov website My link there is also a "B Auto" category which I don't have.

So my question is.. am I allowed to drive automatics on my licence ?

Is the B Auto category for those who passed their test in automatics maybe ??

You are fine to drive any car on a B category.

If you had a B Auto, that means you passed in the Auto therefore can only drive an auto

/\ Correct, even if we're begging the question of why you would deliberately buy a car if you didn't know you were licenced to drive it?

Who said he's bought it yet?

Who said he's bought it yet?

Because his signature says he is waiting for his Fabia vRS.

That could have been annoying then when it arrived :giggle:

I thought I was ok to drive an auto until yesterday when I saw the B Auto category and then I got to wondering, but everything's ok now :whew:

C mon guys, cut bingomad some slack they have only done 7 posts & asking a perfectly valid question.

Unless the rules have changed, its always been that if you pass your test on a manual gearbox, you can drive an auto, but if you pass on an auto you are stuck .
