VCDS Easy To Use

Featured Replies

Looking at buying VCDS for my new car soon. Is it easy to use? do you need any technical knowhow or is it as easy as on/off?. Dont want to buy it and find it hard to use.

Advice please.

It is relatively easy to use, but it is not quite as simple as plug in turn on.

Likewise once you have found a fault code thats all it will be - a fault code, you then need to look on the Ross-Tech wiki to find out what the code means.

Personally I think if you can install software and follow instructions on how to run them then you will be fine, it's not difficult BUT it will take you a whilst to get used to how it works.

As I have said before (IMO) VCDS is not for everyone, if you are only going to use it say once a year then you are better off getting someone local to you who has it to scan your car for 'a few beer tokens', you need to use it quite a bit for it to be financially beneficial.

Darren, firstly, if you want to ask a specific question, start your own conversation thread. This thread is about whether or not VCDS is easy to use, not how to perform a certain operation.

Secondly, I'm afraid VCDS isn't magic. It can be used for reconfiguring certain options within the car, but only those options that the manufacturer originally decided to make configurable. Put another way, you can tweak parameters but you can't reprogram anything (and you certainly can't re-wire physical connections that don't exist).

I don't know the answers to your questions but I suspect they will both be "you can't do that". Sorry!
