Mystery rattle from vRS estate tailgate

Featured Replies

Having taken delivery of my vRS estate last Thurs i have had a really annoying 'rattle' from the rear of the car.

This got worse and worse over the weekend, so i was really determined to find it today.

I took all my personal stuff out, CD's, warning triangle, ice scraper, etc.

No change.

Flattened the seats.

No change.

Took out spare wheel and tools.

No change

Then I remembered a similar problem with a Vauxhall Calibra, remember them?

The two rubber buffers on the tailgate were really sticky and the pads on the body dry.

So I wet a rag with WD40 and wiped the rubber and the body pads and end of 'rattle'.

I will cancel my visit to the dealer, booked in desperation this morning.

The car is now completely free of rattles and drives like a Rolls.

Regards

Tony

An amendment needed here, WD40 is not a long term fix as 'rattle' returned today.

Now using Teflon spray, 'rattle' gone again, will report further.

Lift the tailgate and find two rubber buffers; one on LHS and one RHS.

On the bodywork where the buffers close when you shut the tailgate are two clear plastic circles; one on the LHS and one RHS.

Make sure these circles and buffers are not dry and sticky, I used WD40.

Hope this is clear.

If someone explains how to post pictures I will post some?

Tony
