MkII vRS Timing Belt change - expected costs.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My vRS just went in for it's 60k service and it was recommended that I get the cam belt changed out too so had it booked in for the coming weekend. Judging by what I've read, this is probably correct advice.

The price I was quoted was "up to £400" - although to be the guy I spoke to said if it could be done in 2 hours it'd be around £300-350. That price is parts and labour.

Is that about what I should expect to pay at a Skoda dealership? Can anyone recommend alternatives in the York area for this kind of work?

Couple of other queries:

How much are spark plugs for this TFSI engine?

How much have people paid for an Aircon service / regas?

Cheers all.

Mine was a 1.9TDi not a vRS but cost was £350 at main dealer (DM Keith, Bradford) and that included the recommended water pump change.

They also gave me a half-price air con service for £35. Had a major service at the same time including a brake fluid change.

Had my 2.0Tfsi vRS cam belt done yesterday. Was £290 including tensioners and labour.

Water pump didn't need doing but if it had that would have been £90 extra. Took a couple of hours.

That was at a main dealer (Motorline Skoda in Canterbury) so I didn't think it was too shabby.

Good advice suggests you should have the water pump done at the same time. This is on the basis that once they are 'down there' it's cost effective to have them both done at the same time! In other words, if the water pump subsequently needs doing, the labour costs are high as they need to take quite a few bits out to get to it! (technical terms obviously!).

Get water pump fitted at the same time no extra labour costs involved (price of pump and antifreeze is about £65.00) its just peace of mind cos if the pump fails youve got a wrecked engine and a MASSIVE bill!

Hi

You might think laterally and try a VW garage - Volkswagen are advertising a menu of fixed price servicing. A VW engine cambelt is 299 and 399 for the cambelt with a waterpump. I should think any Skoda main dealer would match that. I would never let any garage give me a "see what happens" quote. They will rob you.
