Tyre load ratings?

Featured Replies

Hi.

Do any of you knowledgable folk out there know if it is okay to use a lower tyre load rating than was initialy specced for a yeti.I am soon to get delivery of a 140 TDI 4x4 and want to put on winter tyres.I have seen a great article (somewhere) with a yeti on 7jx 17" alloys fitted with 205/50/r17 Avon ice touring winter tyres however checking there website this size states that it is rated at 93H as opposed to the summer 94V rating fitted by Skoda.Alot of tyre manufacturer websites state that you should never fit other option tyres to a vehicle lower than the specd load rating supplied as original equipment.I am aware that it is okay to spec a slightly lower speed rating for a winter tyre but would appreciate any advice etc.

might have iunsurance implications if using lower rating then standard from manufacturer. Check insurer to be sure.

Hi,

205/50/R17 93H is an approved size and rating for the Yeti 4x4.

Hi,

For info the Dunlop SP Sport 01's on my 5 day old 140 Tdi 4x4 Yeti SE are rated at 94W (225/50/17).

If this helps anybody.

Look on the ministry plate for the maximum axle weights, then look up the tyre load index corresponding to half or more the axle weight - loads of internet tables with this info. That's what's required to meet the C&U regulations, hence legality.
