Anyone else worryingly attached to their Yeti?

Featured Replies

A bit embarrassing to admit this but only had my Yeti for 2 days (Steel Grey, 1.2 TSI Elegance) and I catch myself looking out the window to admire it and finding any excuse to run down the road in it. As my other car is a bike and I used to hate the idea of driving anywhere for the sake of it, am finding this development a bit distubring. When I'm driving, I also feel incredibly calm whereas in a hire car or borrowing a mates car, I'd find myself losing the plot very quickly. In fact, can't wait to get home to give it a run and I live in London so that's saying something. Am pretty sure I woudn't feel this way about the Golf Plus I almost bought. This is a seriously addictive car. Anyone else suffering from the Yeti effect?

Yes see the post I just added, great colour choice by the way :smirk:

I cant say I look at it out of the window admiringly but due to its competence in pretty much all areas I do have a lot of respect for it and its abilities and have bonded rather nicely with over the course of the last 9,000 miles.

Man and machine as one ... a match made in heven :giggle: Just got my SM yesterday and drove up from London .. Totally blown away with it so know how you feel . Lets hope it dont wear off.

Awh Fenboy. I get mine tomorrow. And well, I might quickly feel just like you I suspect.

And you're in London! Yihay. The South East group is growing. All of us close by will need to do the Ace Café one night for sure. I'm sure a row of Yetis will cause a storm there.

I feel a storm of Yeti coming.emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I have applied worrying amounts of wax to my SM this past week.

I think about 3 coatings maybe more, the tub of japanese wax is nearly empty now! :giggle:

It peed down with rain the other day and i was caught out in it, all the water just dropped off like it fell on plastic and my SM still looks like its just been washed still B)

I park as far away from other people as possible (in Taiwan they dont respect peoples property and will just open their door into your car!) and generally treat it as if its a ferrari!

Ah yes I too love my white monster and look forward to driving, no matter how far, and on sunny winter days its great to have the sun coming through the sunblind into the car, just makes it feel so airy whilst yer bum is toasty.

Only small criticism I have so far is why they didnt make the front sun shades bigger and shaped to the driving mirror to stop that little ***** of sun from peeping through the gap !

Glad you made the decision to travel down and collect the SM yourself. Nice to know you had a similar driving home experience to me.

Yes came to the same conclusion myself, deeper shades would be better and I miss the fold down flap to bridge the gap between the driver and front seat passenger sun shade that I had in my A2.

And just to answer the original post, yes I do admire it out of the window and even park it in the best spot in the supermarket car park so I can admire it.

When returning to it last week in the car park a group of youths passed and were heard to say 'Skoda Yeti' they then stood and watched me drive off. When I got to the main road they again stood and watch me pass. I had a little chuckle to myself ..... May be better street cred than the BMW M Sport it replaced?

Well I do look out of the window, just to check it is still there, and I do enjoy driving it, but beyond that, not much really, it's just another car I've owned.

Must say it drastically needs a wash. I had to wash the rear lights and number plate earlier so they could be seen, and the back window is just a semi circle of clean glass. The sides have got a tide mark on them, but the front stays surprisingly clean.

Have you hugged your Yeti today?

I will have to admit that the SM grows on you. Now almost a year old and 25,000 miles, it is still very much fun and surprisingly agile. it is still somewhat funny looking - in a very cute way, but not bad. The driving behaviour is excellent, considering the shape and size.

The only negative coments I have are the following:

I miss the boot of the Octy estate.

The rear view mirror location stinks.

It does not yet command any "respect" in the left lane on the Autobahn.

Hi,

What exactly is the problem with the rear view mirror?

I have no problems with it and have a good line of sight through the rear screen. I must confess to being a bit of a short a** and have the drivers seat as high as it will go,

Know what you mean about the space in the back of an Octy estate having changed my 140 4X4 for the Yeti.

If you do not have the auto-light option, the mirror is located lower on the windscreen, and gets in the way looking around RH corners (in LH drive car). Nothing wrong with the rear view. but a pain in the butt on hairpins RH turns and in some crossing situations. I am around 6' tall and like a high driving position .. and need to duck often to look right under the mirror.

I had the misfortune to rent a first generation Mercedes A-class once for a week. Same problem. The internal rearview mirror was fine most places but driving up the mountain pass to our villa? A total nightmare as it blotted out 60% of the road on hairpins when you turned right (in a LHD car). Awful. I feel for people with these low Yeti mirrors.

[and yes I'm still in the train heading to dealer!!!]

We look forward to your first impressions as an actual SM owner, the very latest on the forum.

No internet conn. in the SM, so I guess we will have to wait till he gets home?

Ah, Johan. I didn't realise you didn't have it yet. I too took the train to a dealer - in Exeter. Being the genius I am, I had the wrong paperwork so had to wave bye bye to the Yeti and take the train back to London. Got it a week later though and not looked back since. You have a mountain villa? We should become friends! Seriously though, what part of SE are you? Will be on look out for another Yeti. Not seen one on the road yet. Enjoy!

Alas, I only rented the villa from Jamesvillas.co.uk!!!

Does that mean that James at Allams has a side venture? Do SM buyers get a discount?

OK, didn't know that. Explains why I didn't notice the problem.

Glad I'm not the only saddo out there!

Just got home and resisting the urge to take it for a run for no particular reason. Maybe I'll do my bit for the planet and just gaze at it instead.

So, Ace Cafe anyone???

When mine has arrived, yes.
