MK2 2.0 TDI BKD Thermostat Location?

Featured Replies

I'm just wondering where the thermostat is located and whether it is easy enough to replace?

I've seen a bit of information on here about mainly the 1.8T which are in the Mk1's but nothing on the BKD engines.

Do you have a problem?

Its on the front of the block, same kinda place as the .18T

Yeah, it's slow to warm up and when it eventually warms up and you knock the heaters it drops almost instantly down to around 70 degrees.

I have a sneaky suspicion that the thermostat is slightly stuck open

Could well be, although they do take a long time to warm up.

Yeah, I've had the car since March / April and it's always pretty much stayed on the 90 degrees even with the heaters on.

I know the weather naturally plays its part but its still not 100% right.

For the sake of £30ish I'll just replace it and see if it cures the fault.

Cheers for your help, :D

I'd be interested to know if it improves things as mine behaves very similarly.

Having said that, so have most of my previous diesel cars so I've always assumed it was normal!
