The First Service

Featured Replies

Soon my Octy will be due for it's first yearly, 10,000 mile service.

I have started to look into the local service dealers and the prices being asked for this first service,

which is just basically an oil and filter change start at £180.00 and upwards.

I have looked around the back of the workshop at the nearest dealer, and quite frankly totally disgusted.

The place was filthy and muck and dirt all over the place. One of the worst I've ever seen.

I could go on but this would be a wast of time, but sufficient to say I wouldn't even check my

50 year old lawn mower in there.

Does SUK ever check to see what they have approved as authorised dealers??

So the real point of my post is to ask - would SUK approve the use of a local main VW dealer

to carried out the work. In contrast the VW workshop was everything the Skoda one was not.

Incidentally the price being quoted for the service was a lot lower. More for less.

Servicing at a Skoda dealer has perks - especially for out of warranty fails where they often contribute favourably if every service was at a Skoda dealer.

Is it actually 12 months since service? What's your annual mileage, journey types, as you may be better sticking with the variable servicing which would be around that price. Most 10k/yr services are £120-£160.

Do you have another dealer nearby you could use?

Thanks for the reply.

No I have not yet completed the first 12 months, but started to look so as to be prepared.

By the time of the 12 month service date I should have completed about 7500 miles,

all of which is social driving, 75% local town/country and 25% motorway.

I don't have many local dealers near to me that I would entrust my car to. I am prepared to travel

any reasonable distance in order to avoid the cow boys at my locals

Note you say most services are £120/160 - not where I live. They seem to start at £180 and upwards.

I can get an oil/filter change at my local; Indy for about £75 easily.

I have difficulty getting my head around the high ratings given to Skoda for their workshop service.

Just out of interest for the last 3 years I have had my wife's Toyota serviced at the local main dealer,

included an inspection service and oil/filter FREE OF CHARGE. Must say this only applies to cars over

5 years old as they are hoping to get other repair work from the inspection.

And they collect and deliver it back washed and cleaned and phone to ask if everything is OK.

Now that's service.

my first service cost £120 for my 2.0 TDI but i took my own oil so they deducted that from the bill. It only came to about £60.00 if i remember right. That was at SG Swansea.

How did your service department feel about bringing your own oil?

I think this is a good idea, as there appears to be many cases of the wrong oil being put in the engine.
