Bio-Diesel question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just a quick question regarding Bio Diesel.

I went to my usual filling station Morrisons for diesel last night and just as I was about to stick the pump in the car I checked the diesel pump as there was two next to each other and I noticed in the small print that it contained 7% Bio Diesel, it rang alarm bells so I checked my filler cap and it says no to Bio Diesel, so I had to find another garage to put fuel in the Fabia.

I'm just wondering is it ok to use the diesel which contains 7% bio diesel or do I risk doing any damage to my Fabia.

Hope you can help?

7% is OK. It is 100% biodiesel that shouldn't be put in the tank.

Cool, thanks for the answer, I've only filled this car up twice since purchasing it and I'm sure I've filled it up with the morrisons fuel as well but never noticed the small print!

Fab Estate is correct. Bio-diesel has been added to all diesel for about the last decade at a rate of at least 5%. This is now increasing, and will be at 10% in a couple of years, and thereafter 15% quite quickly. Your engine is designed to run on it without any ill effects at all and it will produce less particulate matter. When pure bio-diesel arrives (no date for that yet) your car will run on it with no ill effects but will need some adjustments.

Ah nice one, I had not realised that this has been added to diesel.

The only reason I had asked is that I'm sure I've heard horror stories with people using Bio Diesel in the PD units.

Thanks for the comments people. Some Australian experiences here. In summary I suspect any problems around PD engines arise from fuel quality and feed stock, not all Biodiesels. There are B100 good news stories in spite of most car companies reluctance to endorse certified product.

So what changes are required to run B100 in a recent VAG diesel engine?
