What cars had the 1.6 AEE engine fitted

Featured Replies

Just wanted to know as i am searching for possible engine parts on ebay and demon tweeks etc etc,

Can anyone tell me what other VW group cars had the 1.6 engine thats in my skoda, for example i know that golfs had them in but was it mk2 mk3 mk4 golf? and What seats used them? also for stuff like cams and pulleys is the engine the same one as the 1.8 8v used in the mk3 golfs etc.

I have tried to locate this information online, but have some contradicting results.

Many thanks

ok.. mk3 golf, 6n polo, 6L polo/cordoba, 6k ibiza, 9k caddy, 9u caddy, mk1 octavia, etc etc the list is vast

nothing from a 1.8 8v will fit sadly, and you will struggle to find an aftermarket cam that will work with the standard injection gear on an aee

Brilliant that list is good enough, i will start searching ebay for various go-faster bits. i will give up my search for cams, i only wished the engine revved a little higher.

Any tips for power gains though!

I fitted a sealed aftermarket induction kit to the car and ran the air feed to somewhere nice and cold away from the engine bay.

Like all inductions kits there was a slight reduction in low end torque, but a gain in top end bhp.

However with the Felicia i noticed a reduction in power all over the rev range and after three days i put the standard airbox back-on, it appears to be fairly free flowing anyway.

Any tips for power gains though!

yes, chuck a 1.4-16v in there.. simples.. easy fit, easy job, plus you have absolutely everything you need from your existing car except the engine

The mounting bracket and wiring loom, and changing the belt to a different size are all stuff a bit beyond me and i wouldn't want to pay a garage to do it because of labour cost.

Reading the thread on here scared me a little as it sounded really complicated. If i had a friend that had the tools to do it i would happily supply or the parts and pay a friend say £350 to do it for me but let me watch and help.

If i could do the swap including acquiring the engine and necessary parts for less than £600 i would it tomorrow,

You don't happen to live in East Sussex do you Tom? p[erhaps you could help

i would be more than happy to help you out, but my work schedule is crazy for the next 6 weeks becuase i'm doing panto (work in a theatre doing lighting :giggle: )..

you could re-use your existing wiring loom and I have a mounting here for the job, i've even got a suitable part used clutch (less than 200 miles on it).. i live right on the hants/west sussex border and i'm sure that we could do that swap inside one weekend, but as i say above it will have to wait till late january

edit: just remembered i've got a loom here too which is ready to fit

What does the 1.4 16v conversion do to the insurance?

dont know tbh, mines on a traders policy at the moment.. it works out a lot cheaper becuase i have access to multiple cars..

the pickups are hard to get insured anyway becuase it's a commercial van

January-Febuary would be when i would plan to do it.

i will be attending some of the meets, so will hopefully get a chance to meet you in person before we take it any further, but ur definately within driving distance of me about 2hrs though.

Your making it sound very simple now and i am very tempted, i will start to keep an eye out for the engine.

Cheers Tom

go on  you know you want to

Ihave 3 aee engines 1.6 all good one has 82k on other 100k both come with gearboxes

There seem to be some variations on the 1.4 16v. What would be the one(s) to look out for, to swap into a 1.6 Felicia?  :bearhug:

Three engines both with gearboxes?

Two things after, welcome to the community. ;)

The classics section has it's own mini classifieds area, best to post details, more detail, like price etc there.

The second, is this was a 6year old topic; that's known as necroposting, bringing a topic back from the dead and isn't impossible, just not encouraged unless, well unless :D. Just take a note of thread/post dates, but well-found none the less.

AFH is the engine your looking for, best thing you'll ever do for easy power and revs and all round awesomeness. I was a little unsure as I use mine for road rallying and was worried itd have less torque but no! Do it you wont look back, I've not bothered re-taxing so cant comment nor can I comment on insurance as mines on a motorsport policy.
