KW V1 basics vs AP's

Featured Replies

I'm trying to decide which coilovers to get. Do the AP's come with the helper springs now? Anyone used KW basics?!

Cheers

Matt

out of the two I think I'd go for the KW's

Heck of a difference in price, and I've not had any problems with my AP's (so far, for the entire 5 days that they've been on :giggle: ) but if the budget isn't such an issue, then I'd go for the KW's as well.

My AP's do not have helper springs, just a bit of plastic tubing over the points where the spring coils may make contact (they don't come like that: I did it myself).

the Weitec GT's are suppost to be good and there not much dearer than the AP's

I'v been told by two separate people that the Weitecs are bouncy bouncy. The only think that I'm not sure about the AP's are the reports of knocking and needing helper springs (which arnt supplied)

Hi Matt,

Personally I would go Weitec, I have found them to work brill on the Fabia/Ibiza/Polo chassis :)

As for the AP or KW Basic - KW use better parts in their dampers and work much better. The coating on the KW Basic is still better than the AP but both after time can become difficult to adjust if grit and dirt gets caught in the thread.

With any coilover kit they shouldn't knock so there might be an issue somewhere?

ive got the weitec's they can be a little bopuncy over harsh terrain at speed but i wouldnt think the AP's will be any different at really as there an even cheaper option made by the same company, if you can afford the kw's go for it as there all from the same factory but obviously the v1's are [in theory] a higher quality product emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Weitec's get my vote!!!

ive got the v1 basics there awesome very comfy, an handles very well, no knocking or untoward noises herd since fitting, and they use standard droplinks,

Result! Some one who actually runs them! Any ideas what's different to normal V1's?

Money is a issue, but I can stretch to KW's. If I got the others would mean I could get a rarb now instead of after Xmas lol.

Thanks for all your help guys!

I have weitec's on my golf tdi and there far from bouncy bouncy

Coming from the fabia vrs with stainless v1's there is no difference what so ever to the weitecs

Yeah we aint saying all Weitecs are bouncy, I run Weitecs and they are fine. It would seem they have the damping rate a little off on the vRS thats all.

Ah right couldnt comment on them on a vrs would have thought they'd be set up same as the kw v1's

If your in any doubt matt get the v1's as they were dynamite on my fabia

No, although they are made in the same place, same dampers they are valve and sprung differently.

Out of the 2 you've mentioned the KW V1s are the better choice in terms of ride and build quality.

As mentioned the Weitec Hicon GTs are a nice inbetween kit that's very popular.

Give us a shout if you need any prices or more info.

the basics have a galvanised body instead of stainless on the normal ones i believe the springs and dampers themselves are the same, and the rear shocks are black instead of purple lol, they were only 70quid more then the weitecs when i got them and ive had kw's on two previous cars and couldnt fault them
