fault code 16487 (HELP!)

Featured Replies

So I changed the split breather hose today, took the car for a hard drive, floored it through all the gears with no issue, turned around accelerated up to 4th and then floored it again in 4th and the traction control light stayed on. Got the code 16487, the car had a brand new genuine MAF a couple of months ago so unless the K&N filter oil has caused some issues then I don't know what to do. I've checked the connections to the MAF and all the hoses I can see and can't find anything obvious. The light doesn't come on during normal driving and doesn't always come on under hard acceleration.

Any suggestions on what to check?

I also got a code 01314 but don't think this is an issue?

The car seems to run as normal and even when the light is on it still pulls like a good 'un. If no one has any suggestions then I might take it up to R Tech and see if they can find anything.

I've used K&N panel filters in several VAG 1.8T's & never had an issue with MAF's oiling up.

16487 is for MAF fault. Did you buy a genuine VAG MAF? Aftermarket MAF's are notorious for being faulty, even when new or failing quickly.

it was a genuine MAF mate, not sure whether to try and take it back saying its throwing a code?

You could try taking the sensor out of the housing & cleaning it in a bath of Isopropal or carb cleaner.

You could also try running with the MAF unplugged & see if it throws the code again.

Thanks for the advice. I might see if I can find a fellow member with VAGcomm and run some logs. That should show up if there are any issues with the MAF?

MAF faults can be a bit tricky as they often don't throw a code unless it's a wiring fault, which could easily be the issue that you have.
