Second replacement diff in 66k!!!!

Featured Replies

Just had to re-book my jabba re-map due to the rear diff in my 4x4 giving up the ghost AGAIN.

The first 1 managed 35k and was replaced under warranty without any problem, after taking a techie out in it and him confirming it sounded like "an old tranny" The dealer managed the swop in a couple of days and all was well untill.........

The other day i was reversing out of a car park spot, slowly increasing the lock to full to avoid other cars, having cleared the space i dipped the clutch to engage 1st and the car rolled forward about 6 feet. At this point i must say the carpark was level! i engaged reverse again and proceeded backward on full left lock, only to feel a slight vibration and a faint, muffled grinding noise.

At this point i stopped! dipped the clutch to engage 1st and drove off very slowly on right hand lock. same ribration, same noise.

while still in the carpark i got out & had a look around, nothing hanging off so off to the workshop to have a proper look.

On the ramp all looked ok, nothing wrapped round drive shaft, damaged rim/tyre, propshaft not fouling the usual stuff! and driving round outside the noise/vibration can be enduced forward or reverse in either lock.

At the dealer on friday the techie and i agreed that it "was'nt good" so they took it in & had a look.

After about 40 mins they give me the car keys back & said we need it back next week! the service staff said "bring it in on the 24th & we will give you a car till we sort it, "how long?" i asked "all week, we need to investigate further" He said!

I have not posted this to put people off the 4x4, believe me the car is outstanding, i use it to run my business & covering 50k a year it does it's fair share of work i can tell you.I am slightly concerned that it has managed to chew 2 rear diff's in 66k! the warranty is up in August & i wont be able to change it till its 3 years old.

Has any-one encountered any similar problems?

Has any-one got a spare rear diff?

I will keep you posted on the results.

PS its booked in on the 20th Feb now!
