Fabia Driver's Door Stuck Shut

Featured Replies

Please can you help me. I'm a new user of the forum and not sure how to find my way around so it may be that someone else has had the same problem and resolved it through the help and advice of other forum users. Right now I URGENTLY need help from the forum's members and would welcome all and every suggestion.

I have a Y reg Skoda Fabia (saloon with central locking). By way of background, I replaced last weekend the driver's door lock mechanism which hopefully will now illuminate the driver's door panel red light, the courtesy light above the rear view mirror and make the alarm sound when I leave the lights on and open the driver's door.

My partner and I replaced this driver's door lock mechanism (using a new genuine part) last weekend. However, the moment we closed, the driver's door, that was it - I haven't been able to open the door since! I am now in a somewhat desparate state - I need to get the door open not only now to fix it!

We tried to remove the door lock barrel yesterday hoping we could get access to the outer/back side of the door lock mechanism but we couldn't get the barrel and plastic holder out of the bodywork once we removed the outer fascia.

We then tried to access the "wire" that opens the door by removing the door mirror unit from the inside of the door panel - no joy there.

We even managed to unscrew the interior door panel (at the base of the door) from inside the car and tried to reach the cable using a coathanger. Again no joy.

PLEASE are there any members out there who know how to get my car door open again so we can fix the door lock mechanism - my guess is something wasn't clipped on properly when we reassembled the door.

ALTERNATIVELY, can you recommend anyone in the Kent/Surrey area who could help me - either a forum member or a place where I could take the car?

Thank you everyone - any help/advice you can give will be very much appreciated as I am now desparate to get the car fixed.

Susan
