Clutch pedal to the floor... with a bang

Featured Replies

So. Driving to work this morning, about 600yds from the gate I'm slowing to turn left. Went to push the clutch down, and it just went "BANG" down - and stayed down there. Limped it to work, stuck in 3rd, and abandoned it in the yard.

I've been out all day, and not had chance to look at it - any ideas what it might be? There was a small piece of plastic laid on the floor mat, about 1/2" by 1/2" square.

Bloody thing.

IIRC that will be a broken clip that connects the pedal to the master cylinder: they're cheap.

Sounds similar to mine which I posted earlier under the title 'has my clutch died?'. Have just got back home with mine having had to leave it at work last night due to the clutch not working. From an internet search it seems fairly common for hydraulic clutches to have issues in cold weather as the fluid can be effected by the cold. With mine I pulled the pedal manually back up when I went back to the car today and it started working perfectly again. Hopefully yours will come back to life as well once it warms up a bit.

I guess ultimately it is effected due to there being a bit of moisture or air in the fluid so fresh fluid and a bleed through should prevent it from happening again.

There's a little plastic box on the clutch pedal (on my SDi anyway) that a linkage goes into from the main clutch mechanism. Mine went suddenly one day. The local garage welded a metal box on for £40 and it's been fine since.

I had this on a mkiv Golf once. I just pulled the pedal back up, & it never happened again.

Aye, clutch pedal had broken the welds, as is seemingly common - got the new pedal and couple of clips, but for reasons I shan't discuss on a public forum, I also now need a new master cylinder - is £42 still the rough going rate from TPS?

I have genuine Skoda master cylinder in good condition for £20 delivered if you want it? Give me a text on 07732 872 122 to discuss :)

I paid £100 for a slave cylinder and master cylinder from an auto factors as I was told this was a problem with my car. Changed them and found it the gearbox was fooked, so changed mine for no reason :(
