a Bong Bong sound when I open the door!

Featured Replies

Hi , I just recently noticed a low 'bong bong' sound when I open the doors! I've never noticed this bfore and presumed it must be an open door warning sound and the car has always done this but I'm slightly concerned now as it still makes this 'bong bong ' sound when I close the doors and am outside the car!

Any one know what this is?

Thanks.

lights or indicator still on? all my car bongs at.

Left the lights on?

Left the keys in the ignition?

If the door is shut then there shouldn't be any warning chimes.

Does it ever stop or is it sounding all night? You mention being outside the car, is the ignition on? Are the keys in the or out of the ignition? Is the car locked?

I understand it is possible to change the audible warning's in Maxidot.

For example, in the US an alarm sounds if the drivers door is open when the keys are in the ignition, regardless of if the engine is running or not. I heard that this is a legal requirement. Perhaps the Octavia has this setting available in Maxidot for when the car is sold in different markets?

As others have mentioned the obvious cause is leaving your side or dipped headlights turned on, with the ignition off and the door open, however as soon as you shut the door it should stop.

Quite a few people leave their indicators on when they turn off the ignition. This activates the parking lights which will have the same audible warning as if you have left your lights on - but again only when you open the drivers door.

Are you sure it the warning is sounding with the drivers door shut?

+1 for parking lights, the only things that can trigger the bonging are the lights being left on and the parking lights via the indicator stalk.

Do you have maxi dot? When the doors are closed does the dash confirm this?

On my last Octy which had auto lights/wipers, I used to leave the lights in the on position permanently (I have since found out it was probably in "Scandinavian" mode, as dipped beam was always on) & if I happened to leave the rear foglight switched on this alarm would chime!

thanks guys, I'm not aware anything is 'on' when it makes this warning noise....problem now is a flat battery! the car has been standing for 1 week and everything dead!

second time this has happened after not running the car for one week! have wondered if the bluetooth system is draining the battery?

I had the identical problem. It was warning that battery charge was low. Also radio would shut down with notice that battery needed to be saved.. Car would not start one morning as battery had drained fully . Skoda Assistance guy that came out found an excessive drain on battery with everything closed down and switched off.

Took car to Skoda dealer who checked battery and alternator.Turned out to be a relay on tow bar electrics which was stuck open. This was replaced and all is okay now. Suggest you get electrics checked to see if there is any drain on battery when car not running .

Make sure your not leaving the indicators up or down.

You've mentioned 'Bluetooth system'. Is this an integrated Skoda system and was it fitted and coded professionally?

Ahhh, just seen your other thread :)

See my response there for a little more info...
