Roofbar preparation on twindoor

Featured Replies

I have a twindoor on order, and am starting to think about load carrying. I currently use Thule roofbars with either 4 Thule cycle holders, a roofbox, or combination of both.

If I had ordered estate would have been straight switch of current gear from Avensis, but I will need to order additional bits for twindoor.

From earlier cars I have the 750 foot pack, I also have 120 and 135mm bars (twindoor should use 127, but looks like the 135mm will fit) Thule have stopped making 750, but adapter kis fit both this and the 754 replacement so dont need to update

Having looked at Thule instructions for the 1495 adapter kit for the twindoor it looks like there are locating pins on the adapter- can anyone tell me if there are corresponding holes or recesses in the door frame of the car? The spec for my car does state "roofbar preparation"

Thanks in anticipation

Hi, I have a 4 day old twin door,

I ordered the Thule 1495 adapter kit to replace the 1425 kit that I had for my Honda,

The kit replaced the old kit simply on a 750 foot pack, I also have the 135mm aero bars and they do fit without noticeable over hang,

When you open any of the 4 doors you will see a little hole, the new 1495 adapter kit has a pin that fits into this hole.

Now in the instructions the distance for the front bars for the foot plates are 40 on each side of the bar, and this fits perfect.

BUT the rear, the instructions say 39, but when you do this one side fits perfect and the other one catches the paint and sits to far in overhanging the gutter.

So I spend some time and found that 40.5 was correct, this means the rubber bits do not overhang the gutters and the 1495 brackets does not rub on the paint work,

Hope this helps, I can do some pics if you like tomorrow, to show you the problems if you follow the instructions for the rear. And how the rear sits much better, after adjusting the distance.

Much obliged-a very helpful answer. I will follow your advice and preset the rear to 40.5. Will now need to measure holes in roofbox to make sure it will fit sonce position of bars is fixed. Never been an issue before.

Hope you are emjoying the new car

Normally the T-bars hanging down from a roof box are adjustable as well - fore and aft. So once the bars are set to their new distance apart on your new car you can adjust the box to suit. This is how my Kamei roof box works anyway.

The car is great, So nice, glad i chose it and not a passat or insignia / mondeo.

I did check them back measurements today, the backs are between 40 to 40.5, but I think if you put them to 40.5 and close the locking bit they slightly move in a tad towards 40. so start at 40.5 you shoud be fine.

Now snow has cleared I have finally found my spare bars and feet (currently using short bars on roofrails with my other adapter set). Managed to get all the settings as described, now all I need is the car to put it on- cant wait. Leasing company say 22nd April for delivery to me... only 89 sleeps :giggle:
