Octavia II Strange door open warning light

Featured Replies

Here is cracking new fault i have just inherited with my Octavia II 1.9TDI pd.

When you get in the car and turn the ignition on the "door open" warning light comes on even though all the doors are closed properly, but thats ok because if you turn the lights on it goes off.

Gets better.

If the engine is running and the lights are off the door open warning light stays on but you cannot use the rear windscreen wiper. Turn the lights on (either side lights or main lights) and the rear wiper will then start to work as normal and the door open waning light goes off.

Has anyone else had this problem or even heard of it....?

just a suggestion...

Have you looked at the bonnet? I understand the wipers won't work if the bonnet is ajar/open (in order not to damage the bonnet). Could be all it needs is slamming properly? Maybe others will tell you where the sensor is.

It is the rear wiper that does not work. The "bonnet open" warning light is working as normal but give it a week and im sure that will go wrong too lol

My company uses Octavia estates, one of those had this fault, it was down to the rear hatch switch being faulty, this was fixed under warranty

Thanks for that,

I think the reason the rear wiper is not working is because the car thinks the boot is open. That indicated to me the fault is with a sensor on the boot. I will change/fix the rear hatch switch (if i can find it) and se if that solves the problem.

The only thing i cant get my head round is why the warning light goes out when you turn the lights on....?

Cheers

Bad earth type issue? possible that when the lights are on, the switch is getting12v?

Thanks thats a good point.

Since i closed the boot last the light has not come back on so i can only assume it is the boot. I would put money on the fact that if i open the boot and close it the fault will be re-triggered.

At the weekend i will take the boot lid to pieces and try finding this switch. will post some pics for ppl in the future

havoc924,

Did you mange to get to the bottom of this problem? I've had exactly the same behaviour since this afternoon so obviously I am interested in the solution.

My Octavia Estate is 3 weeks old and had a similar problem with the tailgate - rac came out via skoda assistance and immediately diagnosed the problem. Damp had got onto the boot lock via the rear wiper arm. They took the tailgate trim off, greased around the inside of the wiper arm and cleaned up the connections - all working ok now, but not very impressed for a 3 week old car!!!!

Klaki yes i did fix the problem in the end. The rear wiper was not working because the car thought the boot was left open, after slamming it shut a few times the problem went away.

The other day it came back so i decided to spray the latch with GT85 and it cured the problem. I am not sure how long it will last but if it goes again i will strip the boot lid appart and investigate further.

The chances are its you boot lid sesor/latch, since having this problem i have discovered it is a common fault and 9 times out of 10 the boot lid is responsible.

Just another thing, I did have a similar problem with my old Audi A4. Turned out one of the cables going thought the door harness had broken from excess use. Was easy to diagnose as it cut out all the electrics to the door.

At night turn the lights on and make sure the backlight on all the electric window switches are lit up and the door electrics work ok, that will eliminate that as being the problem.

I don’t for a minute think it’s that but its costs nothing to check it.
